Product Description

In 2021, music hardware/software specialists Universal Audio launched their first line of guitar effects pedals — aptly-named the UAFX series! Bringing the same class-leading innovation and ease-of-use of its pro audio products to a tactile, plug-and-play stompbox format — the forward-thinking brand has now expanded its UAFX range with three "amp-in-a-box" pedals based on iconic, vintage tone machines from the '50s and '60s.

The UAFX Dream '65 Reverb amp pedal emulates an essential American valve combo that's been used by artists and producers for nearly 60 years — including Muddy Waters, The Beatles, and Mac Demarco. Built on powerful dual-engine processing and acclaimed UAD modelling, the Dream '65 is designed to deliver broad cleans, sweet breakup, and heavenly spring reverb/vibrato effects — all from a compact unit that easily fits on your pedalboard! Attain the classic USA tube amp tones that shaped music — anywhere.

Key Features

  • UAFX dual-engine provides the most convincing mid-'60s American valve combo sound ever placed into a stompbox!
  • Faithfully captures the immersive sound of real tube-powered spring reverb and vibrato, modelled from a "golden unit" amp heard on more than 100 classic records.
  • Includes the world's best speaker cabinet, mic, and room tones — derived from the award-winning OX Amp Top Box.
  • Features "hot rod" amp and speaker mods, plus free additional downloadable speaker cabinets and mics upon product registration.
  • Bypass cabinet/mic emulations and use in front of your amp like a conventional pedal, for added tonal flavour and overdrive sounds.
  • UAFX mobile app lets you customise footswitches, recall and archive your presets, unlock additional features, download artist presets, and more!
  • Timeless UA design and craftsmanship, built to last decades.

I’ve had the Dream’s sister, the Ruby, for a while and the quality and sound of that tempted me to buy the Dream too. It’s similarly outstanding in sound quality and feel when playing although I’m still only at the beginning of discovering the different sounds it can produce. I use both mainly for recording and the recordings are better than any other simulations I’ve tried before. The 4 cable connection method also means my Blackstar amp now has a multitude of different sonic possibilities too. The Bluetooth connection for presets rather than midi will be a personal preference but I like it and find it easier to use, but then I don’t have to cope with live venues and indifferent connectivity.

I had the hardest time getting the Dream to sound good and ended up returning it. I was planning on going straight into my interface into my DAW but could not get a good signal for whatever reason it was really weak and clipping a lot. I added a DI after which helped but I also found it not taking my other pedals very well. Ultimately after loads of trouble shooting and help from the Andertons tech (who was great), I could not get anywhere near the sound I was seeing in reviews online. The only time I got it to sound like a real Twin was when I plugged only the Dream straight into a PA speaker then it was good. At that point though I was over it, if something doesn’t work right away for me out of the box it’s not going be for me. This was my first amp sim and either I was missing something which is totally possible, but I have read up on more of them and learning they may not be as straight forward as we think and the right thing for everyone. All that said, there was 0 questions asked when I returned it which was nice because I hate having to return things.

Like everyone is saying this Dream 65 is just a stunning model - I've never played a real 1965 Deluxe Reverb but I've played more modern ones and this sounds and behaves just like an amp - technology has come a long way! First modelling pedal I've ever bought and I'm not disappointed

I think the hype around the Dream 65 is totally justified having used it on a few recordings already. It sounds and feels great, is really convenient and very versatile. I doubt I'll need to use it live as I am happy with the Katana for that job but it will now be a permanent fixture in my recording set up. Although it does sound really good when you plug the Dream 65 to the Katana via the "Amp In". Very happy with this practical, high quality bit of gear.
