Lunchbox Amps

If you're unfamiliar with what a lunchbox guitar amp is, a typical example follows an amp head format, with its circuitry and internals enclosed within a small, convenient chassis. Lunchbox amp heads are therefore far less heavy and cumbersome than their full-sized counterparts, and this ergonomic design has become increasingly popular in recent years, with many modern players preferring smaller rigs that are easier to transport.

To meet growing demands, many companies boast their own lunchbox amp head contenders to remain relevant and competitive. A lot of large established brands have used this approach to create more affordable and streamlined versions of their renowned models, such as Mesa/Boogie and Marshall. However, there are also brands like Victory that almost exclusively build their amps to this particular specification, fully embracing this forward-thinking concept.

Many within the industry also refer to lunchbox amps as "mini guitar amps", and the majority of examples are valve-driven to satisfy the traditionalists. Pioneered originally by Orange with their Tiny Terror range, the majority of lunchbox heads are low-wattage due in part to their size, however they can still project plenty of volume through a large guitar cabinet for gig levels.
