Product Description

Metallica's James Hetfield is known for his chunky, attacking rhythm playing and now this sound has been encapsulated in the EMG JH pickups. EMG are well renowned for their active pickups, but they've worked with the frontman on this occasion to mix the clarity and crisp, even output sound of passives with the legendary tone of their active pickups. This set is finished in a striking brushed gold.

Electronics

The set consists of the JH-N and JH-B for the neck and bridge positions, respectively. Expect a strong attack and fat low end from the neck pickup thanks to its larger core and its bar magnets. The JH-B meanwhile has steel pole pieces for that sharp pick attack and tight, clean low-end. The end product is a surprisingly versatile set which works great for bright cleans. However to get the best out of them, metal is where it's at. Designed for chugging riffs and big sustained power chords, the JH set is perfect for either classic or more modern styles of metal.

Here's what EMG say about the JH Set:

In early 2009, James Hetfield contacted EMG Pickups president Rob Turner and presented him with a challenge: to create a “stealth” looking set that captures the clarity and punch of a passive pickup and still retains the legendary active tone that molded a generation. Now available in EMG Metal Works Finishes and EMG’s Solderless Installation System components, the JH Set consists of the JH-N (neck) and the JH-B (bridge). Both were patterned after the pickups James had used for 30 years, but the end result was a completely different animal. The JH-N has individual ceramic poles and bobbins that feature a larger core and are taller than the 60. This produces more attack, higher output, and fuller low end in the neck position. The JH-B uses the same type of core but has steel pole pieces, unlike the 81 that uses bar magnets. This produces the familiar tight attack with less inductance for a cleaner low end. Metal Works consists of six stainless steel cap options for any of EMG's active or passive humbucker pickups. These U.S.A made caps are available in Gold, Chrome, Brushed Gold, Brushed Chrome, and Brushed Black Chrome. These striking new designs offer players and instrument builders a broader range of premium cap options. All the power and clarity of EMG electronics, now with a modern classic look.

Pick ups and powered electrics conversion kit arrived with 3 tone and only one volume pots???? Anderton's had EMG send me another volume pot a few days later, but when it was all put together the other volume pot was rubbish and clicked around instead of smoothly turning like every other guitar pot on earth. The pickups are awesome, and sound great, but after spending a fortune refurbishing my guitar I still have one crappy volume pot. EMGs quality control is not acceptable.
