Product Description

The Fender Player Series is effectively the replacement of their Mexican-made Standard range. The same basic formula applies; legendary Fender design, classic wood combinations and instantly recognisable tone, but at a wallet-friendly price point. But with the Player Series, Fender have made a number of tweaks to take these instruments up a notch, aimed squarely at an ever-changing and increasingly demanding market. Expect timeless Fender sound and feel, but with modern playability and workhorse reliability to boot!

The Jazzmaster was originally released in the late '50s to break into the upmarket jazz crowd. It instead found success among surf and rock guitarists, who favoured the punchier pickups and offset looks - radical at the time. The Jazzmaster ultimately became the alternative Fender guitar, for the players looking to stand out from the crowd and make a musical statement. For the Player Series Jazzmaster, Fender have made a number of tweaks to cater for the contemporary market - read on for the full lowdown!

Body & Neck

As with many of their solid-body instruments, Fender have opted for an Alder body for the Player Series Jazzmaster. Known for being lightweight but tonally resonant, it's balanced in every sense of the word. Its sound is often described as rich, with some emphasis on upper-midrange brightness, and its weight and density means it's an easy instrument to harness, whether on-stage or in the studio. The Jazzmaster body shape was also intended to be as ergonomic as possible - those instantly recognisable curves really do look the part.

Maple and Pau Ferro is used for the neck and body respectively. This combination, coupled with the Alder body, ensures a pronounced and colourful midrange with plenty of sparkling presence. This makes the Jazzmaster ideal for leads, cleans and riffs alike, regardless of musical style.

The use of a satin finish, C-shape neck configuration and familiar 25.5" scale length means that you'll be as comfortable as can be; whether it's a quick jam or an all-day session, you'll feel right at home on the Player Jazzmaster's neck.

Electronics & Hardware

The Jazzmaster has seen many different configurations and iterations during its colourful history. For the Player Series, Fender have loaded it with two Alnico 2 humbuckers. Alnico 2 magnets are known for their PAF-like quality; they'll bark and they'll scream, but they'll keep your tone warm and responsive without fail. You've also got a push-pull switch so you can tip into old-school Fender twang when it calls for it - the choice is yours.

Hardware-wise, shimmering chrome and traditional Fender knobs add a classy, retro edge to the Jazzmasters aesthetic. The vintage 6-saddle floating tremolo gives you just the right amount of vibrato for those more expressive moments, and the sealed tuning machines offer easy access and excellent stability - total peace of mind. Top it off with a synthetic bone nut, dual-wing string tree and a four-bolt F-stamped neck plate and you've got a Jazzmaster that's innovative, yet Fender through-and-through.

Amazing, great sound, great tone, great action. It's the guitar I always wanted, now made by Fender so I don't have to make it myself.
