Product Description

The Blackstar Amped 2 is a 100-watt pedal power amplifier, equipped with drive pedals in the front-end and and an advanced effects processor that's capable of delivering the tone and feel of a traditional valve amp. You can use it to power a speaker cabinet, go direct to a PA, or connect to the input of a traditional amplifier — ensuring that you can take your sound with you anywhere. Power reduction down to 1W and USB-C connectivity means that it's equally at home in the studio as it is on the stage!

Key Features

  • 100-watt, 3-channel, performance-ready pedal power amp with onboard multi-effects.
  • Unique high-headroom design that automatically matches to the speaker impedance to deliver maximum power and optimum tone with any 8 or 16 Ohm cabinet set-up.
  • Response control delivers three distinctly different and authentic power valve flavours: EL34, 6L6 and EL84. Each setting delivers the response, dynamics, sag and break-up characteristics of the selected valve power amp.
  • Choose from USA, UK and Classic amp voicings to dial in your perfect tone.
  • 3 drive voices (Boost, Drive and Fuzz) with effects including Modulation, Delay and Reverb.
  • Pro connectivity and integration into your setup using low-latency USB audio as an interface for recording, TRS stereo line out, and XLR Mono D.I. for live use with built-in CabRig simulator technology.
  • Effects loop, two 9V DC outputs and MIDI control for easy integration into your pedalboard or rig.
  • Onboard chromatic tuner allows for on-the-fly pitch correction during live performances.
  • Universal voltage, so it can be used anywhere in the world from 90V to 264V 50/60Hz.
  • Use Blackstar's free Architect software to deep dive settings for reverb, the effects loop and more.
  • Small enough to fit in a backpack or a large gigbag pocket!

3 Channels

  • USA: Inspired by classic American amps of the mid '60s. Very clean, dynamic and bright, but with a solid low-end and controlled mids. A perfect pedal platform setting.
  • UK: A distinctive preamp based on a much-loved British Class A amplifier of the early '60s. A low-to-medium gain preamp that can be used clean, warm or mildly overdriven. Popular choice for a pedal platform or as a responsive crunch tone.
  • Classic: Based on Blackstar's award-winning cascaded valve/tube overdrive circuits and a traditional "British-style passive tone stack". Perfect for big chords and crunchy rhythm playing, with clear note separation.

Responses

  • EL34: Classic British Class A/B crunch, full-bodied soft break-up.
  • EL84: Bell-like, full-bodied Class A with lots of compression.
  • 6L6: Tight dynamic Class A/B with extended highs and lows.

Really lovely tones are easy to dial in on this very versatile amp. Drive a cab, go line out to FRFR, or digital into your computer - this does it all. Seems quite difficult to actually find a bad tone. Would be nice if it had a couple of preset memories, but otherwise it’s superb.

Brilliant all-in-one powerful amp head, with build-in reverb, delays, modulation effects, overdrive and tuner. This means it can replace an amp and a board full of pedals. Very intuitive controls mean you can quickly dial in a sound. Some reviews have criticised the lack of programmability, but they are missing the point-it's not really meant to be used like that. If programmable presets are important to you, you can add a MIDI footswitch and using Blackstar's software, programme a bunch of presets, but I can't honestly be bothered. As it stands, with a small speaker cabinet and a long speaker lead, you've got a totally viable gigging set-up at your feet. Criticisms: Overdrive sound is a subjective thing and not to my liking, so I've added a drive pedal in front. The built-in tuner is a bit fiddly, so I've added a stand-alone tuner pedal too. I also added the compressor from my old pedal board while I was at it. The great thing is, you can power these off the AMPED 2. If you wanted to add your favourite delay or modulation pedals, there's an effects loop too. All in all, AMPED 2 is an awful lot of kit for your money. There's a reason Guitarist magazine gave it their highest accolade 10/10 review.

Really good sounds available straight into a guitar speaker and/or recording / PA / mixer etc. Amp sounds and effects good. Amp es rated at 100 W, though there is a huge power difference between the various modes of clean through to overdrive/distortion. I don't think the clean mode achieves 100 W. You can not foot-switch between the modes, so effectively a single-channel unit, though the foot-switchable boost goes a fair way to alleviate that (I believe also the it might be possible to foot-switch the modes via a MIDI foot-switch controller, but that needs looking into as haven't yet found information on how to set that up. I would have given 5 stars but for these issues. It is though, a highly useful amp/effects head, and extremely portable.

I managed to get an awesome tone and set up all the effects in five minutes without reading the instructions. This is exactly how gear should be. Amp runs a 4x12 no bother and the DI is fantastic.
