G&L is the final legacy of legendary guitar builder Leo Fender. Creator of so many iconic instruments, Leo continued to improve on these designs when he founded G&L in 1979.
The ASAT Classic is an evolution of the classic T-type guitar that Leo originated, and this Bluesboy Semi-Hollow version has twin voice chambers, an f-hole, and a humbucker in the neck.
Body and Neck
The ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow has an all-Ash semi-hollow-construction. The twin voice chambers and single f-hole give this guitar a resonance that you just don’t get with solid bodies. The semi-hollow construction also lends the guitar a warmth and roundness to the tone which balances well with the bright characteristics of Ash.
The ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow has a comfortable “Medium C” neck profile which is easy to play and has a 9” fingerboard radius. This radius is slightly more curved than most modern fingerboards and makes fretting chords a breeze without compromising your ability to play leads and bends. The maple fingerboard makes for a very smooth playing experience and it has been said that maple adds a snap and brightness to the tone.
Pickups and Hardware
The bridge pickup is a Leo Fender-designed Magnetic Field Design (MFD) single coil. This pickup is both hotter than a traditional Alnico single-coil and has the added benefit of less hum! In the neck is a G&L Alnico humbucker to give you the option of thicker, warmer tones. This setup is highly versatile – from Jazz to Funk to Blues and Rock the ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow can handle it all!
The hardware is fairly true to the original design, however, the use of individual brass saddles is a great feature as is brass is known for its resonance and the individual saddle design makes for improved intonation and greater tuning stability.
Here's What G&L Say About the ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow
The G&L ASAT® Classic Bluesboy™ is a factory-modded version of Leo’s final word on the traditional single-cutaway bolt-on guitar, and the semi-hollow version takes it further with G&L’s distinctive twin voice chambers and f-hole added to a beautiful swamp ash body. Like its solid-body stablemate, this axe delivers a well-balanced pairing of a G&L alnico humbucker designed by Paul Gagon and a single-coil G&L Magnetic Field Design™ bridge pickup designed by Leo Fender.
Framed in a classic boxed-steel bridge, the single-coil MFD™ bridge pickup delivers crisp attack with complex harmonics while individual brass saddles offer modern levels of intonation refinement. Flip to the neck ‘bucker and you’ll discover all the charismatic warmth you could ask for. Put ‘em together and you’ll find yourself immersed in exploring the limits of this guitar’s surprising versatility. What’s more, the semi-hollow body softens the midrange attack, accentuating the low and high harmonics.
The Tribute® Series ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow is dripping with authentic G&L mojo at a price attainable for every working musician. Once you play a G&L Tribute Series, you’ll never look back.
