Product Description

Sire have made serious waves in the bass market in recent years and have rightfully earned massive praise for their all-encompassing range. Their collaboration with world-renowned jazz and funk bassist Marcus Miller has produced a range of exceptionally high-quality instruments that far exceed their price point.

We here at Andertons believe that Sire are the best bass brand we have seen in the last twenty years! That’s a bold statement for sure, but you know a product is good when all the staff own one! Unlike a lot of other guitar companies that outsource their work, Sire own the factory in which their basses are built. This means cheaper production and full control over the quality of the instruments from start to finish. It goes without saying that we QC check each and every Sire bass that comes through our doors, but we are always blown away by how little tweaking is required because they’re always set up so well from the factory!

The V8 is Sire's new flagship bass guitar model, packed with premium features that you would typically expect to see on more expensive models. Its versatility makes it a great option for an array of different techniques, genres and playing styles. At this price point, its build quality is unrivalled too. Sporting a familiar J-Bass body shape, the V8 boasts a Swamp Ash body, roasted Hard Rock Maple neck and an Edgeless™ Hard Rock Maple fingerboard for maximum comfort and playability. At the heart of the V8 is a set of Marcus Miller-approved Vintage Fat-J Revolution pickups with '70s spacing, delivering Marcus' signature punchy tones. The onboard Sire Heritage-3 preamp allows you to accurately shape your tone with both active and passive modes on hand.

Key Features

  • Edgeless™ Fingerboard – Typically only found on high-end basses, rolled fingerboard edges enhance the overall comfort and playability of the neck and make it easier to play. What’s not to like?!
  • Marcus Miller Heritage-3 Preamp – An onboard 3-band EQ with active and passive settings puts plenty of tone tweaking options at your fingertips.
  • Marcus Miller Super-J Revolution Pickups – This signature set of pickups is preferred by Marcus Miller himself, offering up a host of great bass tones for a range of playing styles and genres. The '70s spacing brings the pickups closer to the bridge; a key element of Marcus Miller's sound.
  • J-Bass Body – This iconic, tried and tested body shape is incredibly comfortable to play. Body contours allow the bass to sit comfortably against your body when playing either standing up or seated.
  • Marcus Miller Heavymass II Bridge – This all-brass bridge set up ensures optimal intonation and tuning stability, whilst maximising the transfer of sound energy to the pickups. It also allows for enhanced vibration and sustain, producing a clearer and punchier sound.

This is a beautiful bass. Gigged about 36 hours after receiving, very clear and powerful tones and lovely to play. Neck is really stable, more so than all my other basses. I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5 if I could Reasons for this are.... It's a weighty beast, make sure you've got a wide soft strap. The preamp is great, but possibly overkill and a bit fiddly to operate. Other than that it's a cracking bass to play, a great jazz bass with the full range of classic jazz bass tones

Mr Paul Delooze6th Jun 2023

I have various basses already like Status, Warwick and spector but never really had a desire for a jazz bass. One, because I feel they can be a little pricy when sourcing out a good one. This is where Sire comes in, they have taken the ethics of building a really good bass with many high end features and making it cheap to buy but have also been clever to get some bass heavyweights on board like Marcus Miller it endorse and in MM's case take some sire's on tour with him to play. £700 plus isn't cheap but in the land of exotic and unpronounceable names the above cost will just about cover the pickups. On initial delivery and a fight with some very good packaging I am confronted with a very well made gig bag and all the ancillary stuff I need. Remove that and my eyes are greeted by a most excellent bass with a superb finish to boot. Roasted maple neck excellent preamp and pickups and to finish it off, a lovely tobacco sunburst finish. Without delay I went into the studio and plugged this bass into my DAW via Darkglass Harmonic booster and my Antilope Zen interface. After my initial play around I re-setup the action to my taste and boom. instant phatt vibes. This bass pumps out a mighty tone and there is enough in the preamp to craft something special for any track you care to mention. I have seen reviews about Sire basses in the past and the amount of snobbery that follows in my opinion is unfounded, the build is superb, the tone is think and slinky, all round a winner. So all I will say is this, Ignore the many opinions and listen to the bass itself via Lee and Nathans video and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
