Product Description

Tim Henson is a modern virtuoso! Lead guitarist and primary songwriter for instrumental prog-rock band Polyphia, Henson has developed a unique style that's instantly recognisable — fusing intricately catchy melodies with a sophisticated percussive approach.

As an artist, Henson is always trying to update, invigorate and reinvent his band's image. He has taken that same approach with the TOD10N, his signature nylon-string electric guitar. The TOD's most striking aesthetic feature is the fingerboard inlay design, which Tim has dubbed as the "Tree of Death". The name and the design are both nods to the iconic Ibanez "Tree of Life" inlay design synonymous with Steve Vai's JEM line of signature models, but with a darker twist!

Key Features

  • Fishman Sonicore Pickup & Ibanez AEQ210TF Preamp — Fishman- Sonicore pickup accurately translates a full guitar sound to whatever amplification system you plug into, while the AEQ210TF preamp provides the extra punch of onboard EQ and the convenience of an easy-to-read digital tuner.
  • Modified FR Hollow Body with Fan Bracing — This thin, compact body with a deep cutaway contributes to the superb playability of this guitar. It has less feedback as there's no soundhole on the body top. Fan bracing, which is commonly used for classical guitars, allows this guitar to have a warm and natural nylon-string sound.
  • Solid Sitka Spruce Top — Provides an enormous frequency range that offers wave after wave of shimmering highs along with tight mids and a full-bodied bass response.
  • Sapele Back & Sides — Sapele back and sides offer a full-bodied and warm mid-range and a bright tone.
  • Side Sound Port — The sound port on the body side allows you to feel and hear the pure acoustic tone of this guitar more clearly and directly.
  • Walnut Fingerboard — Features a well-balanced tonal character from low to high end.
  • Walnut Bridge — Transfers string vibration directly to the body, delivering a natural and warm tone.

Feels absolutely amazing to play, effortless gliding across the fretboard. The hybrid playability of an electric with the classic tone of a nylon string is a perfect mix.

Already one of my favourite guitars. Obviously does not project much or sound too great unplugged due to the narrow body and thick soundboard but sounds great plugged in and is really good unplugged for quiet practice sessions when you need to keep noise at a minimum. Its narrow body also makes it a comfortable sit down with a cup of tea guitar! Really nice finish and and style to boot.

This is a beautiful guitar, unfortunately the finish is flawed… I took the first one back… I’m sure most people won’t notice the imperfections but I’m a little OCD and was disappointed- even the second one I received had issues… expected more from Ibanez… but at this price maybe I was expecting too much… sounds and plays very well though :)

Price for this instrument is very good. One star less because the setup needs work when you receive the instrument plus the documentation does not exist - not even on the Ibanez Web Page. You don't even know what strings they've put on ....
