    Product Description

Comfortable to play with thundering bass tones? Yep, Sire have added a short scale bass to their range! The U5 features a short scale length (distance between the bridge and nut) which not only makes the bass more comfortable, it provides it with a more emphasised low-end. When you combine these characteristics with its modern aesthetics and the build and sound quality that Sire have built their reputation on, the result is a versatile, great value bass that beginners and more experienced players will have a lot of fun playing.

    Short Scale

Short scale basses have been growing in popularity over the past few years, and for good reason. The shorter scale length results in a lower string tension which makes it much easier to fret and bend notes on a bass. This makes it great for both beginners looking for their first bass as well as guitarists who want a bass in their collection but find regular basses uncomfortable to play. The impact on tone is another reason why short scale basses have become popular. With shorter, looser strings you get less high-end frequencies when you play a note which leaves you with a more pronounced low-end. It sounds weird to say but a short-scale bass actually sounds more bass-y! These tonal properties make short scale basses great for more experienced bassists looking for a different sound to add to their arsenal.

The U5 features the popular P/J pickup configuration. The P-Bass style split-coil pickup in the middle offers classic warm, rounded bass tones while the J-Bass style bridge pickup offers a tighter, snappier, and more articulate sound. These pickups, and the ability to blend between the two, offer a wide range of  range of tones to suit almost any genre you can think of.

Its a little hard to believe what you get for the price. You know that old saying, if it looks to good to be true.... But in this case everything is just great. As manly a guitar player first and bass second (or third.. keyboards) I always felt a bit like an imposter when asked to cover on bass. But I really feel at home on this, my first SS. The big wow to me is I hear no compromise in tone. I no longer buy the narrative SS bass is for kids or little handed people, I'm 6.3.. The fact is short scale opens up bass to multi instrument players. Maybe this is why bassists often talk them down? This is just a great instrument full stop. Not "for the price" or "for a beginner" just a great feeling and sounding bass.

This bass guitar is genuinely amazing. It is well made and has premium features: flame maple top, body binding, lacquered fretboard , rolled fretboard edges, noiseless pickups. The rolled fretboard edges alone make this guitar worth buying - I have small hands and I find a typical fretboard with it's bulky fret-ends to be uncomfortable - I always have to get the fret ends rounded. This has been the situation with a number of guitars I have bought over several years - (including made in USA Fenders). The other bonus of this guitar is that it is a short scale bass (30") There are lots of short scales on the market but they are often presented as student models or as being for children/teenagers. Consequently there are very few short scale basses with premium features -this guitar fills the gap. I must also mention the sounds this thing can produce - they have real authority and good definition - which some short scales can't match. OK this won't sound exactly like a precision (nothing does) but it comes close. The real kicker for me is that this bass is more comfortable to play and sounds better than my USA Fender Mustang Performer. And all for £369! If you want a guitar with these premium features from the big companies then you have to buy top of the range. Fender could not make this guitar - if they did there would be no incentive to buy their more expensive models. This guitar is at least as good as a Mexican PJ Mustang, and better than a Squier. It would not surprise me if one of the big companies tries to buy Sire guitars if only to stop them putting out such high quality product so cheaply. So buy one of these now!

Really well crafted instrument, came set up well and plays and sounds better than expected. Bought as a lightweight alternative to my jazz bass and I am very happy as is my back! Highly recommended, has the look and feel of a more expensive bass, if you are looking for a short scale quality bass that doesn't cost a packet then I don't think this will disappoint

Great little guitar, easy to play and boy does it look good. I've only played it through practice amps and PC but I'm sure it'll preform just as brilliantly if used for gigging. Love it.
