Product Description

The Paranormal Series goes far beyond what we think we know about Squier guitars. It embraces forgotten models, dabbles in what could have been, and stirs the pot of familiar Squier specs! The Paranormal Rascal Bass HH rewrites the playbook of electric bass design with a greatest-hits-list of features from several eccentric 1960s-era Fender bass models.

Combining the offset body shape of the Fender Bass VI model, the unique headstock shape from the Fender Coronado Bass, the strings-through-body bridge from the Mustang Bass, and punchy dual Fender-Designed Wide-Range humbucking bass pickups (HH) with 3-way switching — this model amounts to something truly greater than the sum of its parts! Other player-friendly details of this model include a short and easy-to-play 30" scale length, a slim and comfortable "C"-shaped neck profile, and a gloss neck finish for a slick yet confident feel.

Key Features

  • 1960s Heritage — This innovative model features design elements from classic 1960s-era Fender basses, including a Bass VI body and Coronado Bass headstock shape.
  • Short-Scale Design — A 30" scale length (the distance from bridge to nut) creates reduced string tension and easy playability for players of all sizes.
  • Fender-Designed Alnico Pickups — Dual 'Wide-Range' humbuckers deliver massive, punchy tone with vintage colour and nuance.
  • Mustang Bass Bridge — Inspired by vintage Mustang Bass models, this strings-through-body bridge improves resonance through the body for optimal tone and performance.
  • Vintage-Style Tuning Machines — Sporting classic looks, these retro tuning machines deliver rock-solid tuning stability and smooth action.
  • "C"-Shaped Neck — Slim profile is suitable for both traditional and contemporary players.

Overall a great bass, the Paranormal series is a genius idea and I love the quirky and intriguing instruments that it produces. Also a total sucker for a colour-matched headstock. Build quality is faultless and the components are high quality. Especially the tuners, which are absolutely excellent. Pickups are nice and give a really good range of sounds. Bridge has real grit, neck gives a lovely soulful sound and the two together... struggling a bit to find the right word but with both pickups on it sounds a bit like a Rickenbacker. Neck is slim and playable without feeling cramped. Sits well on the strap, well-balanced with no neck dive. Knocking a star off though for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's heavy. I couldn't see an official weight listed in any of the official specs, but I make it to be around 10.5 pounds which is pretty chunky, especially for a short-scale. Secondly, because of the big Bass VI body and the oversize Coronado headstock, it won't fit in a standard short-scale bass gigbag (including the Fender ones). This is a bit tiresome TBH. So it has to slop around in a long-scale bag, or the G tuner sticks out of a short-scale one. Or I have to find and shell out for one that's the right size.
