NAMM 2020 on Andertons T.V.
Moog at NAMM
Replacing the Sub Phatty, Moog has announced a new 2-note paraphonic synthesizer, the Subsequent 25. Implementing upgraded sonic modifications and functional improvements, the new Subsequent 25 becomes the standard production model moving forward. Twice the headroom, reshaped gain, re-tuned multidrive circuitry and an upgraded keybed are just some of the improvements.
Sequential at NAMM
The Sequential Pro 1 and Pro 2 mono synths achieved legendary status in their time. So it was only natural that a worthy successor was created. Enter the Sequential Pro 3 Multi-Filter Mono Synth. Sequential’s 2-VCO + wavetable mono/paraphonic synth - a new benchmark for raw sonic power and unrivalled versatility.
The Pro 3 is also available in a special edition. The same synthesis power into a collector-worthy design that features a tilt-up control panel and full, premium-grade walnut trim.
Korg at NAMM
The evolution of Korg’s legendary Wavestation synthesizer, the new Wavestate takes digital synthesis to new and evermore-organic heights. Combining 64 stereo voices with gigabytes of samples, numerous layers of effects and randomization, the Wavestate will take you on a synth journey like no other!
Korg have also announced the SV-2 and SV-2S stage pianos! Korg have updated the popular SV-1 formula with more memory which means more sounds, more polyphony, and more presets making it even more powerful and versatile. The new SV-2S features the built-in K-Array speaker system for enjoying the SV-2 sounds anywhere. Available in 73 and 88 key versions.
Perhaps most excitingly of all, Korg has resurrected its legendary ARP 2600 synthesizer for a one-time-only production run. Modernised with USB connectivity and an ARP 3620 duophonic keyboard with an added arpeggiator/sequencer - this is quite possibly one of the coolest things you'll see at this year's NAMM Show!
Korg has brought out a plethora of new products at NAMM 2020, and their most recent announcement is the MS-20 FS. This unit faithfully recreates the analogue architecture, feel and sound which characterised the original model that was released in the '70s. If you've been searching for those timeless tones and that old-school look, this homage to a synth classic ticks all the boxes! Available in black, blue, green and white.
In an unexpected move that's yet to be fully ratified, eagle-eyed revellers at the show have spotted an enormous FM synth on display at the Korg stand. Its name: opsix. More details to follow, but it looks like a 6-operator FM synth a la Yamaha DX7 - big news indeed.
Arturia at NAMM
Dubbed a ‘Universal Sequencing Mastermind’, the new Arturia KeyStep Pro is an all-in-one sequencing solution. Take full control of your modular rigs, outboard synths, and software studio all at the same time. The KeyStep Pro gives musicians incredible sequencing and performance power in a compact, versatile controller with 37 slim keys.
Modal Electronics at NAMM
UK synth trailblazers Modal Electronics have launched two innovative new wavetable synths to add to the Argon8 range. The already popular Argon8 8-voice polyphone wavetable synthesizer range has gained both a rackmount module, the Argon8M, and a more traditional 61-key unit, the Argon8X.
The two new units include the mind-bending functionality and near-infinite tonal possibilities that we’ve grown to love from Modal, with equally attractive price tags and versatility; Modal continue to raise the bar in the desktop synth category. There’s no excuses now!
Nord at NAMM
Nord typically occupy many of the headlines at NAMM each year, and in 2020 they've kept up this tradition by launching the Wave 2 Live Performance Synth. With a 61-note keybed offering a wide range, Nord claim that this synth is their most powerful to date, boasting virtual analog synthesis, samples, FM and wavetable with an intuitive layer-focused interface. Saying it is "cool" is an understatement!
Roland at NAMM
Roland are constantly innovating, and it's always big news when they release something new. The new MkII version of Roland's A-88 keyboard controller comes with a refined, compact interface, USB-C connectivity, and is fully-prepped for MIDI 2.0 among other things.
Roland’s RD pianos have been the choice of professional keyboardists for more than 30 years. The new Roland RD-88 allows you to have the acclaimed RD sound and playability in a lighter, more accessible, and more affordable instrument.
Behringer at NAMM
2019 was a huge year for Behringer, and it seemed as though they were releasing a new synth every week! Faithfully recreating some iconic, analogue '80s music-making machines; Behringer's affordable synths have become best-sellers for good reason.
EarthQuaker Devices at NAMM
The Afterneath is among EarthQuaker Devices' most popular pedals, and has become something of a modern classic in the reverb category. Now they've announced a Eurorack version, with 9 controls, 4 of which are controllable via CV. Next-level modular ambience!
