Product Description

The VP-03 Sound module is one of the second line of modules in the Roland Boutique series, that feature limited run compact modules that recreate the sound of iconic Roland hardware using Roland's advanced ACB (analogue Circuit Behaviour) technology. Roland Boutique units are being made in limited production runs, so order now before our stock runs out!

The First group of Roland Boutique modules focused on classic Roland keyboard synths from yesteryear. This time however, Roland have concentrated on other classic hardware models from their illustrous history, featuring drums, bass and voice effects.

Classic Vocal Effects

The compact new VP-03 takes cues from the legendary VP-330 Vocoder Plus, using ACB tech to emulate the original’s fusion of synthesized sound and the human voice. True to the VP-330, the VP-03 has vocoder, human voice, and string sound sources on board. It also includes a gooseneck XLR microphone, and can be paired with the optional K-25m Keyboard Unit for enhanced performance. New features include 16 Chord Memory setups for one-finger chord playback, plus a new Voice Step Sequencer for dynamic rhythmic effects. Alongside line and headphones outs, the VP-03 also includes MIDI I/O for connecting with other devices and 24-bit DAW audio interface capability via a Micro USB connector.

Performance Control Options

One of the striking things about the compact VP-03 module compared to it's predecessor is that it doesn't come equipped with a keyboard. As a super portable instrument that you can carry around with you, there are a few different ways you can make this synth sing.

If you're looking to play with a keyboard, the VP-03 has all the inputs and outputs you need to connect to a performance keyboard or direct to your computer. However if you want to be able to play your Roland Boutique synth anywhere, you can get the optional Roland Boutique Keyboard attachment which easily connects to your synth. Your module will simply clip into the perfectly sized bay which has an adjustable tilt arm so that your synth controls can sit flush or pop out like a Minimoog or Korg ms-20.

Aside from the included gooseneck mic being next to useless (connect a dynamic mic to get the most out of the Vocoder section), I absolutely love this little recreation of the famous Vangelis synth. The strings and human voice sections have that retro cool sound that resembles the 80s perfectly and they work well in most mixes, plus the Vocoder itself is brilliant. And if the classic robot voice isn't for you, there are many other creative things you can stick through it, such as beatboxing, drums or anything at which you can point a mic. Highly recommended, especially for the relatively low price.
