History of the Chapman Guitars

Back in 2009 Rob Chapman came up with the idea of collaboratively designing a guitar with his YouTube fans – over 5000 fans took part in a series of votes to decide on body style, neck profile, headstock shape, pickups & colours, and the original ML-1 was born. Originally made in China & sold as a limited edition one of run in matt black, the ML-1 sold out within 2-3 months & left 100s of fans disappointed that they didn't get one. In 2010 Rob underwent the same process to design the ML-2 – a single cut, double humbucker guitar that again sold out within 2-3 weeks of arrival. In 2012 Rob decided to take the Chapman guitar brand up market, and moved the production to Korea. The new factory introduced some new features, improved the build quality, and added new colours to the original ML designs. Whilst the “Professional/Affordable” essence of the original ML guitars still shines through, The Chapman brand is becoming well known for creating quality products and outstanding value for money.

Plays great. Capable of sounding just like a real telecaster with the oomph to go a little bit further if you need it to. Prettiest finish to ever be put on a guitar. Well set up from day 1. Could absolutely recommend.

Very good. Some intonation issues out of the box but over all very good indeed.

Awesome Tele-type guitar, perfect for beginners

Smashing guitar, very beautiful! Sounds excellent and is great for the money. Having gone from humbuckers to single coils though, I forgot about the noise you get when you aren't playing so I may be swapping pickups around soon, but it's very accommodating for that.

Guitar is great, had a lot of questions by muso friends about branding etc. I've had all of the guitarists give it a jam to guess the price band, they were stunned when I told them it cost less than £500. Looks absolutely stunning as well - beautiful colour. Slapped on some new stings (power slinky 11s) and minimal saddle/truss adjustment and I was good to go. Only downside I've found is the furnishings - knobs and switch feel a little cheap but I planned on changing it all around as I'm not the biggest fan of chrome. Graphite nut is a nice touch. I have been playing strats since I started guitar and felt like I needed to add a tele into my collection. I didn't want to dive in at the deep end and buy a £1000+ model so I was left with the choice between a fender Mexican standard and this and I am delighted I opted for the ML-3, if this quality is mirrored in the entire Chapman line I can see myself picking up an ML-1 Pro in the near future.

It's a beast! Quality, componentry, fit and finish is all very impressive at this price level. It begs to be upgraded as per the 'blank canvas' mandate. I have already put strap locks, heavy duty control knobs and of course my preferred strings on it, and it's starting to feel dang awesome.

Guitar was let down by a soldered component fault that should have been picked up at quality control stages of manufacture and Andertons. Andertons responded well though to my complaint.
