Great to add more input to an audio interface

Mr Lee Andrews8th Jun 2023

I only have minor gripes mainly with the software and a generic issue with all the audio interfaces I've seen where you cannot select the input type it's always based on the input jack. For example even though inputs 1 and 2 can be switch to instrument this actually only works if you are connecting using a 1/4 jack, which OK is the most likely connection but for the other 6 inputs it auto switches between mic and line based on if you are using an XLR connector but XLR can be used for balanced line connections too so this is a bit of an issue when you have an interface permanently wired into a rack. You have to decide up front if the input will be line or mic level and use the appropriate connector. IF you want to change it you will need to open up your rack. Which leads me on to the other issue with the interface, there are no rack mount kits included and contrary to the other video reviews you may have seen they are not free so add these into y9oru budget when comparing interfaces. The interface software can be difficult to view as it's all in the popular dark colours and in my room when the sun is shining through the window it can be hard to see the button logos as everything is a shade of gray. Loopback is configurable but a little confusing and the driver can only be configured to input 2 of the channels it's not possible like it was on my previous interface to use the Master Mix as an input which did present some issues for me using it on a Zoom call as I could choose to hear either PC, Guitar or vocals just not all 3 at once unless I wanted to use the return channels from my DAW. The software only allows 4 mixes, it woul dhave been nice to allow more if using mono mixes as it does have 8 outputs. The popular format of input 1 and 2 being on the front is used on this interface but I'd prefer all 8 on the back as this is the best solution when cabling into a rack unless you only ever want to use the front inputs for guitar in the control room. Another note is that you need 2 x TOS link cables to get this working at the higher bandwidths. Other than that it's a great looking and performing interface - it would have been nice to include some headphone sockets on the front though.
