Product Description

The Purple Plexidist is an "amp-in-a-box" pedal that harnesses the sound of an iconic black-and-gold amplifier! This style of distortion is a classic that transcends time and will always be loved by guitarists. It's a tone that is vintage, classic, and arguably formed the foundation of the rock genre. In pedal form, it's now effortless to carry and use this sound anywhere — without troublesome maintenance or weight! Purple Plexidist brings you all of the legendary British clean, bluesy crunch, and brown tones — from overdrive, to hard rock/heavy metal-style gain!

Simple, Yet Highly-Adjustable

One Control's Purple Plexidist covers all of the bases — from clean to full throttle, and even the customised hot-rodded high-gain tones of the "Plexi"-style amp. You can easily replicate this sound with a simple 3-knob design and one trim pot. When starting out, the mid-range trim pot adjusts the sound around critical treble and middle frequencies for the guitar. Turned counter-clockwise, the mid-range is cut and will produce a more "shred" style of tone with big highs and lows. Increase it to attain a warmer, fatter sound. Adjust the 'Treble' control to taste, adding those luxury highs in at around 2kHz. If you set the mid-range trimmer to a high level, then the 'Treble' knob will help fine-tune the tone, and if the mids are cut, the 'Treble' control will be more prominent.

Stack for Distorted Bliss!

The flexible balance and articulate response of the Purple Plexidist are also effective when used to "stack" with other pedals and various guitars. For example, if you combine British vintage fuzz tones and an S-type guitar — you can get that iconic psychedelic sound. Or, plug in your JM-style and an American-voiced fuzz pedal to go to grunge land! Use a traditional-style overdrive pedal and an LP-style guitar with humbuckers to achieve that classic "New Wave" of British heavy metal tone!

One Control 'BJF Series' Pedals

One Control are well-known for their pedal switchers and pedalboard management devices, but they also make their own effects — the BJF and BJFe Series'! These pedals are designed by Björn Juhl, a legend within the stompbox sphere who's highly regarded for his work with Mad Professor and Barefoot FX. These stompboxes not only sound great, but save precious pedalboard real-estate too!

Björn Juhl on the Purple Plexidist:

"The Purple Plexidist is our first amp-in-a-box design. The goal was to reproduce the classic sound of that iconic late '60s amp that has a similar name. The Purple Plexidist combines a gain range of +6db to +67db — a rare, high dynamic range and a low dynamic range that is comparable to the best tube amplifiers."

"The tight bottom-end with bright (but not harsh) highs will amaze you. Moreover, the thick mid-range, which can be scooped or flattened with the MID control, will give you fuller tone. Use this pedal to create a three-dimensional distortion by itself, or use it in conjunction with the amp’s own distortion settings to create your own unique sound."

"The true test of any distortion effect is its ability to react to any playing style and intensity. The Purple Plexidist rewards the guitarist with a feel that is rare and responsive, no matter the type of pickups."
