There’s not much more iconic than the Gibson SG. But the Nashville-based company have given the 2019 model a facelift and new features to push the boundaries even further.
They’ve made changes to the Standard line from 2018 models that Gibson fanatics will love.
’61 Burstbuckers have been switched out for the 490R and T set of pickups. They’re voiced with more mid-range bite which is perfect for modern players. But they also contain alnico II magnets with a vintage level output, making them extremely versatile.
Body and neck
The Rosewood fingerboard is a mainstay throughout the Standard range. Not much can beat the feeling of a beautiful, grainy Rosewood for effortless playing on the 22 rolled frets.
A slim taper Maple neck offers lightning-fast playability which the SG was designed for. It retains the resonant Mahogany body that adds huge sustain. The SG is also still as light as ever. Great for high-octane live shows or comfortable playing for hours on end at home.
A Tektoid nut and Grover tuners provide stable tuning, so you can go wild with bends, vibrato and aggressive playing.
Gibson have equipped the SG with an all-aluminium Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar. No rusting, easy to clean and extreme comfort for the resting picking hand.
The larger pickguard on the 2019 Standard adds a modern aesthetic to the classic body shape.
