The Les Paul Standard may be Gibson’s flagship guitar, but the High Performance model builds upon the foundations of that iconic instrument and turns it into something truly special.
The Gibson USA 2019 Les Paul High Performance is arguably Gibson’s most highly-equipped offering. Able to tackle practically any style of music you can think of, this ultra-modern guitar is packed full of thoughtful features to help you get the most out of your playing at all times.
Gibson’s renowned combination of tonewoods remains intact, giving you that signature Les Paul sound. With a Mahogany back, you can expect a beautifully rich mid-range and warm, focused lows. The AAA+ Figured Maple top not only looks stunning, but also adds some vibrant top-end sizzle, to ensure that you can effortlessly cut through in a mix.
The Gibson USA 2019 Les Paul High Performance’s body is thoughtfully weight-relieved using Gibson’s ultra-modern method. The most extreme level of chambering that the company offers, this gives the Les Paul HP more resonance and a wider frequency response, while of course providing a much lighter and ergonomic feel.
Paired together with a set Mahogany neck, this tried-and-tested formula gives the Les Paul its famed never-ending sustain. Adorned with a Richlite fingerboard, this elegantly dark material has a silky smooth feel, with its quality consistent from the 1st fret all the way up to the 22nd.
The Asymmetrical Slim Taper neck profile enhances the playability of this instrument even more, with a supremely comfortable and modern carve. Worthy of note is the Access Heel too, which allows you to easily reach the higher frets without hindrance.
Gibson’s Burstbucker Pro Rhythm and Pro Lead+ pickups give this guitar its distinctive yet versatile voice. Delivering plenty of power, these high-output humbuckers can handle copious amounts of gain if you want them to, with a strong mid-range that keeps them punchy and clear.
With clean settings, the Burstbuckers Pro’s sound open and wide, especially when both pickups are engaged using the toggle switch’s middle position. Speaking of which, the HP’s toggle switch is extremely reliable with its aviation-grade design, and will serve you for many years to come without issues.
You can easily manipulate the sounds of the pickups via their dedicated volume and tone pots, but there’s some clever circuitry hidden beneath the surface. With all controls boasting a push-pull function, the volume knobs allow you to coil-tap the humbuckers, meaning that you can capture convincing single-coil sounds.
The tone knobs give you even more flexibility, with one of them engaging a pure bypass mode that removes the tone circuits from your signal, for a purer, unrestrained top-end and a slight volume boost. The other tone control can be pulled to give you a sweet out-of-phase sound, which works particularly well with clean tones, or can be used to attain Gary Moore-esque lead sounds.
If you open up the electronics cavity at the back, you’ll find a number of internal DIP switches. Letting you affect the circuitry, these switches give you an unbelievable amount of flexibility to influence the overall sound of the guitar. If that sounds confusing, a sticker is included on the back to show you exactly what these switches do, so don’t fret!
Featuring a high-quality Aluminium Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge, this particular design provides a stable and solid feel under the right hand. Boasting Titanium saddles, this high-mass material transfers the vibrations from the strings more effectively through the body, increasing the Les Paul High Performance’s sustain even more.
At the other end of the instrument, you’ll find a Titanium Zero-Fret Adjustable Nut. As this metal is so robust, wear will not occur over time like you’d find with a traditional bone or synthetic nut. And with the ability to raise and lower the nut, you can fine-tune your setup and make this instrument the finest playing guitar you’ll have ever experienced.
Grover tuners are considered by many as the industry standard, which is why the HP has been fitted with a set of their high-quality Rotomatic tuners. Giving you precise control of your guitar’s tuning, these will also ensure great stability and reliability over time.
