Ok so Acrylic probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about percussion like bongos but the forward thinking chaps at Meinl are on to something with these fine drums.
The tone isn't as far removed as you would expect from traditional wooden bongo sounds but what you do gain can be incredibly useful: the Acrylic lends an extra punch and cut to the sound that will definitely slice through a mix meaning you get heard more of the time! Acoustically these will punch right through in an ensemble and when mic'ed the sound engineer won't have to do much to keep them cutting nicely through the mix.
But it's not all about how they sound, what about how they look! There's nothing really cooler on stage than the space age look of see-through gear.
Here's what Meinl say about the Meinl 6.5" & 7.5" Headliner Acrylic Bongos
The MEINL Headliner Series Acrylic Bongo has a great look. The crystal clear acrylic shells add a touch of transparency and lightness. The shells are joined together in the traditional style.
