Gibson’s Hummingbird has been embraced by some of the world’s most famous guitarists spanning several genres of music. The key to its success is versatility. From folk to rock, country to blues. It can do it all. Fingerpicking, big open chord strumming, capos; the Hummingbird tackles anything with ease.
Body and neck
Gibson have opted for the classic pairing of mahogany back and sides and a sitka spruce top. You’ll get rich warmth from the mahogany with the spruce adding the crisp highs and direct projection.
The standard Hummingbird has a 50’s rounded neck profile, which makes it a pleasing experience when fretting the rosewood fingerboard. The 24.75-inch scale length gives this model a sweetness in tone compared to the likes of the Avant-Garde series at 25.5”.
Traditional hand-scalloped x-bracing and a dovetail neck joint are permanent, reliable features used by Gibson for over half a century. No need to deviate when a guitar has as much longevity as the Hummingbird does.
Preamp
More players nowadays need a preamp on an acoustic. Being able to plug into an amp for effects, versatility or volume is massively beneficial. That’s why Gibson have equipped the Hummingbird with the LR Baggs VTC preamp and undersaddle pickup. The VTC, inspired by Nashville’s great studios, has been designed to impart rich sonic character for that studio magic.
