Yamaha Release new MODX Synths!

Yamaha have unveiled yet another powerful addition to their synthesizer range. The MODX Series promises a refined interface and unprecedented tonal options – bringing you one step closer to that world-class sound!

  • MODX6 – a 61-key version with synth-action keys and a lightweight frame
  • MODX7 – a 76-key version with synth-action keys and a lightweight frame
  • MODX8 – a full-size 88-key version with weighted-action keys and a lightweight frame

Key features

The MODX range has been designed, according to Yamaha, as a replacement for their MOXF range. Taking influence from both their MOXF synths and their flagship Montage series, the MODX combines the best of both worlds for a truly cutting-edge playing experience. Here are a few key features:

  • Lightweight & portable – by streamlining the interface and using a plastic chassis (compared to the Montage’s notoriously weighty metal frame), Yamaha have made the MODX synths light and portable. Perfect for the performing musican!
  • 192-note polyphony – yep, you read that right. Combining the AWM sampler (128-note polyphone) and an FM engine (64-note polyphony) results in a whopping 192-note polyphony. Imagine the textures…
  • 1000s of presets – Yamaha enlisted an international team of people to produce over 1000 presets for the new range. This provides you with an extensive tonal palette straight out the box.
  • Audition feature – the aforementioned team of people also produced a short musical snippet for every single sound. That means you can hear your chosen sound, no matter how abstract, in some sort of context. Inspiration galore!
  • Hi-res display – the MODX is equipped with a hi-res touchscreen display, identical to the Montage range. Yamaha have also removed the extensive button interface to the right of the display due to user feedback – the result is a streamlined but extensive interface.
  • Built-in arpeggios and drum patterns – again, out of the box, you’re armed with an enormous selection of musical content. Yamaha have stated that this is a synth, not a workstation – but that hasn’t stopped them from packing the MODX synths with in-depth performance features!
  • Multi-timbral – use 8 sounds simultaneously to weave complex harmonic textures and crystalline synth tones. You can also use Yamaha’s signature ‘Super Knob’ to blend these sounds and tweak parameters endlessly. Make it your own!
