Product Description

The dual-channel, EL84-powered Victory Sheriff 44 valve amp head is all about classic "Plexi"-style British overdrive sounds. Blues-rock players will love the mid-'60s feel and response of Input/Volume I, pumping out enough gain to sing but also clean up well off the guitar's volume control. Input/Volume II takes off into hot-rodded '70s and '80s territory and beyond, retaining that classic British "black and gold" sound all the way.

With selectable fixed or cathode biasing, the Victory Sheriff 44 is for players who want ultimate "Plexi" tone that's also real-world usable.

Two Footswitchable Channels

Inputs/Volumes I & II are separate footswitchable channels. Volume I has plenty of overdrive on tap if you want it, but with a softer and more "vintage" mid-range focus. Volume II steps forward a decade or two with more available gain, punchier mids and a tighter bottom-end. Want it cleaner? Just roll your guitar's volume back.

Post-Phase-Inverter Master

A PPIMV (post-phase-inverter master volume) is a great option for a traditionally-voiced amp like this. You get to hear and feel more of the power section at lower volumes, or you can turn the master to full where it's then largely out of the circuit for that non-master volume amp feel and response.

Fixed or Cathode Bias

You can run the power section in either fixed or cathode-biased modes. The former offers maximum headroom and clarity; the latter more compression and sag at higher volumes. At lower volumes, cathode bias can feel more 'urgent' and dynamic, but push the master and it will start to compress more quickly.

Series Effects Loop

A series effects loop is available for effects fans who want to use their modulation and time-based pedals. It's completely out of the circuit when hard bypassed. The Sheriff 44 is a post-phase-inverter master volume amp, so effects can easily overdrive when used in the loop. Victory's advice is to run the mix/output levels on your effects much lower than you would into the front.

External Bias Adjustment

Take all the hassle out of replacing output valves with the Sheriff 44's external bias measurement points and adjustment. All you need is a new pair of EL34s and a multimeter. It's fast, safe and reliable — you can find full instructions are in the amp's manual.

Voltage Selector

This selects the correct mains voltage for your territory. So essentially, you can switch the mains voltage from a European 220/240V mode (standard out of the box) to a USA 110V mode — making this amplifier usable almost anyhwere in the world! The mains fuse must always be changed at the same time. Failure to do this will result in either the mains fuse blowing as soon as the amp is turned on, or the amp running with a fuse that is of too higher value to provide adequate safety protection. Generally, the fuse value will double if the mains voltage is halved (i.e. if it's a 0.5A fuse in the UK at 230V, it will needs to be a 1A fuse for the USA at 115V).

Always use the correct rating and type of fuse. Victory amplifiers exclusively use UL-approved 20x5mm glass 'T' or 'Timed' fuses. If you have difficulty acquiring the correct fuses, please contact Victory using service@victoryamps.co.uk. Please refer to a qualified technician before even thinking about moving the voltage selector switch.

Great amp with the tones you’d expect. Low power mode is great for playing at home. Tweaking the bias definitely changes the tone noticeably so still wondering what I like best.
