Laurel is a wood often sourced from India. It has a familiar style and feel to rosewood – one of the very first and long-lasting fingerboard materials. Both woods have a similar deep brown colour, hardness and open grain.

It‘s no secret that rosewood is the higher-end choice, but laurel does an admirable job in its place for low and mid-priced guitars. Brands such as Gretsch, Squier and Epiphone regularly produce guitars with laurel fretboards. For the tonal chasers out there, laurel offers a warm, rounded sound which takes off some of the high frequencies from your pickups.
