Product Description

Bass preamp pedals have significantly grown in popularity in recent years, and the TC Electronic SpectraDrive is a strong contender amongst its pricier counterparts. Boasting an ultra-flexible 4-band EQ section, built-in SpectraComp and TubeDrive circuits and a raft of other modern features, this all-encompassing pedal can serve as the tonal centrepiece of your rig.

Powerful EQ

If you're a fastidious tone-chaser, the SpectraDrive's versatile 4-band EQ will have you fully covered. Allowing you to adjust the key areas of your bass' frequency range, this powerful tone-shaping section lets you sculpt the perfect bass sound for a variety of different musical genres.

SpectraComp & TubeDrive

TC Electronic's SpectraComp is a popular pedal in itself, renowned for offering studio-quality compression tailored for bass specifically. It was therefore a no-brainer for the company to integrate this excellent circuit within the SpectraDrive, giving you even more versatility. Keep it low for a natural and subtle amount of squeeze, or crank it high for funky slap and punchy fingerstyle playing.

The TubeDrive is also another fantastic addition, deriving from the circuitry of TC's bass amplifier range. Essentially emulating the tonal characteristics of a tube preamp, this control stretches from warm overdrive to a gnarly and bold distortion.

TonePrint Technology

Like most TC Electronic pedals, the SpectraDrive features their cutting-edge TonePrint technology. Allowing you to import settings created by some of the most respected players around, you can use their custom presets for both the SpectraComp and TubeDrive circuits, letting you experiment with a bunch of usable and tested sounds.

Modern Perks

True bypass may be something that players prefer if they want an uncoloured signal path, however many musicians are realising that a buffered pedal is far more advantageous. Utilising the circuitry from TC's Bonafide Buffer pedal, this ensures that your signal remains strong and present, by negating the tonal loss that can occur with long cable runs.

Featuring a balanced line-out, you can send the SpectraDrive's signal straight into a recording interface of mixing desk, making it ideal for both recording and live situations. With a D.I. XLR output too, the routing possibilities are almost endless with the SpectraDrive.

It doesn't end there however, as with an aux in and headphone input, you can practice along to your favourite tracks silently! Giving you convincing cab modelling, you can get a genuine mic'd up sound without the hassle or deafening volume.

Fantastic Bass Pedal when I used it for home recording. The other Blokes in the Band were well impressed with the sound, especially the Ida Neilsen and Nathan East Toneprints which I downloaded from the App. Sometimes I may have to try a couple of times for the toneprint to load and once I got it all messed up but, it was simple to reset to default. Can't wait to have a go live!

Superb bit of kit. Was thinking 'can it be that good for £140?' and deliberated for a long time over it. Pair this with a good set of headphones (I recommend Beyerdynamic DT 770 pros) and I've go myself a superb practice rig with all the control over the low and high mids that I need, as well as bass and treble of course but the low and high mid controls are where this shines. This combo gives sparklingly clear reproduction of your bass tone delivered straight into your ears. Cannot fault it...and the tone prints for me are just an added bonus.

The tone you get from the spectradrive preamp are great . And the fact you can go on-line and get so much more drives and compression. This preamp will keep you busy for years. I'm very pleased with this product.

Mr Damian Buys15th Jul 2019

Great compressor, great sound, great headphone output. Drive sounds are decent, but not at the same level as the comp.

Having used TC amps before, I knew what I was getting. As expected, this preamp is fantastic. The EQ is very versatile and every usable. The input/output options are excellent. I am particular impressed with the aux input (for iPod etc connectivity) and headphone output so that I can use this for silent rehearsal. The ‘Tone Print’ options are limited to Drive and Compression, but that is fine. Both work very well and it’s nice to be able to bring the Drive in and out with the footswitch. Uploading the tone prints is very easy with the TC app. Overall, an excellent pedal at a very reasonable price.

Being relatively new to bass pedals, I wanted something that produces good tone without needing to have any real technical knowledge. Band practice is through a small PA; this pedal's preamp means I don't have to take my amp along. I haven't spent a huge amount of time playing with it yet, but it sounds great through headphones and the PA. The tone prints are easy to access and download to the pedal, although I haven't tried them all out yet. It is also well built and feels solid enough to use on stage.

Mr Martyn Shouler8th Dec 2018

I wanted a drive that would just give me a bit of muscle, not a wash of distortion, and this does it perfectly (I’m using a clean boost toneprint, but there are plenty of different drive types to beam in). The compressor and eq were a bonus but are really effective, even if used subtly. Using it at the end of the signal chain to affect the overall character. Works equally well with all basses. For the price, it’s a steal!

I can play any genre of music with this pedal, The tones and the inbuilt compressor are just superb. Any bassist would find this pedal really useful and enjoyable to use.
