The Taylor 600 Series combines maple construction with unique specifications, resulting in a truly outstanding acoustic experience. Add V-Class bracing architecture to its design propelled 614ce to new levels of tonal richness and projection. For 2018, the Builder's Edition 614ce represents a 'Director's Cut', perfected by none other than Taylor design guru Andy Powers.
Cream of the Crop
Taylor's 600 Series already boasts some of the most exquisite instruments. The 614ce features Maple back & sides for a bright, crystal-clear sound, with a Sitka Spruce top providing a classic golden sheen.
The Maple theme continues with the satin-finished neck, adorned with a beautiful Ebony fingerboard with Scepter inlays. Taylor's own ES2 electronics are notorious for being able to squeeze every ounce of resonance and flavour out of a tonewood combination - expect beautifully organic tones, plugged or unplugged.
While the V-Class bracing elevated them to the next level, the Builer's Edition models truly represent some of the best features a Taylor instrument has to offer. The 614ce BE is based on the same specs but with a few tweaks that raise the bar. The back & sides in this case are flamed Big Leaf Maple, an exclusive, handpicked Maple variety - only the best will do. A unique roasting process for the torrefied Sitka Spruce top softens the brightness of the Maple without losing clarity - it'll sound warm, clear and dynamic.
A beveled armrest and double-carved cutaway, exclusive to the Builder's Edition, makes for the most comfy acoustic experience you'll ever have. Other notable appointments include a silent satin finish for reduced playing noise, Gold Gotoh 510 tuners with 21:1 gear ratio, and of course the stunning Wild Honey Burst finish. It doesn't get much better than this!
Taylor's revolutionary V bracing was introduced in 2018. Compared with the traditional X bracing used on the vast majority of their catalogue, the V bracing offers improved volume, projection and harmonic richness. Upon release, it was met with huge acclaim, credited with totally changing the tone of a guitar.
As the name suggests, the V bracing uses two longer bits of wood in a V formation, rather than the traditional X crossover bracing. Developed by master guitar designer Andy Powers, it allows the top tonewood (soundboard) to be more flexible, vibrating more freely and subsequently producing a fuller tone!
