Product Description

The American Ultra series encompasses Fender's most advanced instruments to date. Designed for modern guitarists that seek ultimate performance, precision and tone, these contemporary models go above and beyond previous top-of-the-range Fender series' without straying too far from their iconic formulas.

Equipped with the typical features you'd expect on a Stratocaster, the Fender American Ultra Strat HSS does however boast a bunch of 21 Century refinements to meet the demands of today's players. Fitted with new Ultra Noiseless pickups, a 2-Point Deluxe Synchronized tremolo and Deluxe Locking tuners, the Fender American Ultra Strat also sports a comfortable Modern "D" neck profile with a slippery Satin finish and rolled fingerboard edges - guaranteeing superb playability.

Construction

Fender's classic tonewood combinations have been used to construct the American Ultra Strat HSS. Featuring an Alder body, this timeless medium-weight material ensures tight and punchy lows with vibrant mids and articulate highs; a great tonal foundation for the pickups. The body is paired with a bolt-on Maple neck that further accentuates the top-end, achieving that distinctive Strat "snap". A noteworthy update is the tapered neck heel, which allows easy access to the higher register.

Fitted with a Maple fingerboard and 22 Medium Jumbo frets for a super-modern and controllable feel, the fingerboard also follows an ergonomic 10" to 14" compound radius. Rounded at the lower end of the neck to make chords easier to fret, this radius flattens out the higher you go; making fast passages much easier to play. This also helps to prevent notes from fretting out when performing string bends, which is an issue that older Strats are more prone to.

Electronics & Hardware

The most noteworthy aspect of the Fender American Ultra Strat HSS is its pickups. Installed with a pair of Fender's new Ultra Noiseless Vintage single-coils and a beefy Ultra Double Tap bridge humbucker, these pickups deliver a mix of modern and old-school Strat sounds - without any hum. Making this guitar usable with overdrive and distortion, the American Ultra Strat HSS is a highly-versatile instrument that can offer a diverse range of tones, especially with the S-1 switch that unlocks even more pickup combinations.

While the flexible electronics will appeal strongly to modern players, the hardware also isn't far behind when it comes to innovation and functionality. Fitted with a 2-Point Deluxe Synchronized tremolo, this particular bridge offers a smooth action for expressive vibrato, while ensuring superior tuning stability with its low-friction design. Combined with the set of Deluxe Locking tuners at the headstock, the Fender American Ultra Stratocaster HSS is an incredibly reliable and road-ready guitar. A Premium Molded Hardshell case comes included.

firstly, it looks a million quid (imo). the recessed heel is amazing and makes more difference than i would have thought. the neck s really fast to play and tapers well, and after dropping the string action a little, (was quite high from factory) feels really good. Sound- Position 1 - love the humbucker, havent found a great use for the coil tap / split / whatever yet. feels a little thin to me especially overdriven but each to their own Position 2 and 3 pretty much as youd expect. Position 4 sound amazing. clean, woody and springy i think? strat sound youd expect with a little something that makes it stand out, not sure what. Position 5 - little bit thin for my liking to be honest. not quite what i expected, trying to play warmer stuff even after rolling off the tone didnt really get the sound im after but still experimenting - still early days. also found it a bit muddy overdriven somehow. gear dependent i guess but just my experience . Trem - Its really tough to push in first time, i emailed Andertons for help to make sure i wasn't going to break anything putting a lot of pressure on it. - they were really helpful and after id nearly had a heart attack putting a huge amount of weight on it, it popped in and has loosened up a bit now. The thing i don't really like about the trem is that the intonation goes totally out on double stop bends. say you do like a double stop enharmonic bend on 1 and 2, (bend string 2 to same pitch as fretted note on 1) the top string drops pitch significantly. and if youve got a bass note ringing, its super noticeable. open E on 6th string when bending 1 and 2 can drop almost a semitone. not idea. considering getting a tremsetter or something similar to remedy but never had one before so doing a little research first. the trems not a deal breaker and i dont tend to use trem much anyway, but i kinda expected on a top end strat it'd be a little more refined. anyhow Overall Killer guitar. looks Great, Sounds Great - will maybe consider changing the neck pickup later on but will spend more time learning the instrument first (as i maybe just haven't found the sound i want with it yet) downside - the trem - might consider a tremsetter, or just blocking the trem altogether not sure yet.
