Product Description

Forming part of Schecter's popular SLS Elite Evil Twin range, the C-1 HT SLS Elite Evil Twin is a modern metal machine with plenty of attitude. Loaded with Fishman Fluence Modern humbucker and Sustainiac® pickups, there's no shortage of tones on tap for the modern metal player. Featuring premium tonewoods and hardware, the C-1 is dressed to the nines in a devilishly sleek satin black finish.

Beneath the C-1's dark exterior, you'll find a number of player friendly features that will satisfy even the most hardened of players! With Stainless Steel frets, a 12"-16" compound radius, locking tuners and glow-in-the-dark fret markers, the C-1 is a modern powerhouse that is sure to appeal to any metalhead!

Construction

The Schecter C-1 HT SLS Evil Twin features a Swamp Ash body which serves as a great tonal foundation for the powerful pickups. Typically a light weight tonewood, Swamp Ash has a big, balanced tone with plenty of bottom end, making it perfect for those brutal, detuned metal riffs!

The C-1 has an ultra thin "C" shape neck made from Maple, Walnut and Padauk with Carbon Fibre reinforcement rods for added stability. This combination is often used on metal guitars as it adds a midrange presence that is ideal for heavy, palm muted riffage! An Ebony fingerboard with a compound 12"-16" radius makes lead lines feel effortless and the jumbo stainless steel frets enable plenty of extreme string bends and won't wear out over time.

Electronics

The C-1 is loaded with a Fishman Fluence Modern humbucker in the bridge position, a multi-voiced pickup capable of delivering modern, high output tones with exceptional dynamics and response. In the neck position you'll find a Sustainiac®, a revolutionary pickup that enables intense, infinite feedback for some truly unique tones.

Hardware

Schecter certainly haven't skimped on quality when it comes to the C-1's hardware. Thanks to a set of Schecter's locking tuners, string changes are incredibly quick and easy on the C-1. At the other end, a rock solid Hipshot Hardtail bridge ensures optimal tuning stability and intonation, no matter how heavy your strings or riffs get! The fingerboard is adorned with stylish Roman numeral inlays and the side dot markers glow in the dark so you'll never lose your way on dark stages.

Mr Christopher Doughty2nd Jun 2022

I’d had my eye on the C-1 SLS Elite models with the Fishman Fluence Modern bridge/Sustainiac neck pickup combination ever since Schecter launched them a few years back. The problem was that they all came with a Floyd Rose, which put me off buying. That changed with the recent introduction of the HT Evil Twin variant with its plain black satin body and Hipshot bridge. The first thing that struck me as I eased the guitar from the box was how light it felt. The kitchen scales indicated 3.16 kg, or a shade under 7 lbs. It was perfectly set up with a super-low action (1.0 mm at the 12th fret on both the bass and treble sides) and was actually in tune. The stainless steel fret ends were well finished. The overall impression was of a high quality instrument. However I did find a couple of minor cosmetic defects. The control cavity backplate sported several scratches and the neck had a tiny imperfection at the 9th fret on the bass side which I could feel with my thumb. Plugged in, the guitar was impressive. Intonation was accurate and there were no dodgy frets or tuning issues. The thin neck profile was very comfortable to play, although for me thickness tends to be less of an issue than width. This guitar has a narrow neck (50.7 mm at the 12th fret) which suits me just fine. As a first-time user of the Fishman Fluence and Sustainiac pickups, I’d researched the switching options before buying, which was just as well as the guitar comes without a manual or switching diagram and I couldn’t locate a download on the Schecter website. Even so, I’d managed to miss the point that when the Sustainiac on/off switch is on, it overrides the 3-way pickup selector. The only guidance you get is the paper tag attached to the push-pull tone control that shows the ‘voice 1’ and ‘voice 2’ settings for the Fishman. As far as actual sounds are concerned, impressions to date have been positive. In particular I like the low-end clarity and punch of the Fishman’s voice 1 with high-gain amp settings, while I tend to use voice 2 on clean. Of the three Sustainiac modes, I suspect that over time the ‘fundamental’ setting will end up being the most used. Pros Light weight, high-end components, playability, tonal options. Cons No switching instructions other than for the push-pull tone control, case not included. The all-black ‘metal guitar’ vibe may deter some potential buyers.
