Product Description

David Gilmour is recognized the world over for his revolutionary and incomparable sound which he has used to great effect both with Pink Floyd and as a solo artist. When you hear the tones coming out of his red Strat you are hearing him play his signature EMG Pro Series system, the EMG-DG20. This set utilizes our ivory alnico loaded SA single coils, an EMG-EXG guitar expander for tonal girth and an EMG-SPC presence control to enhance the Strat earthiness, all prewired onto a custom 11-hole white pearl pickguard with white knobs. Drop it in and drop out of this plane of reality, you're going for a ride.

Package Includes: Prewired to the specifications of each artist utilizing EMG's exclusive solderless Quik-Connect; system. Complete and ready to mount to your guitar.

The EMG DG20 puts David Gilmour's signature sound inside your Strat, with EMG's exclusive solderless Quik-Connect system. Identical to the system in David's red Strat, the EMG DG20 pre-wired white pearloid pickguard is loaded with EMG's ivory alnico-loaded SA single-coil pickups, an EMG EXG expander for added fatness, and an EMG SPC presence control to enhance the natural Strat tones. If you're looking to add the same unique tones David used both with Pink Floyd and as a solo artist, then drop the EMG DG20 into your Strat!

EMG SA pickups

The EMG SA is an active single coil loaded with an Alnico V bar magnet that provides a vintage Strat single coil sound: bright, airy, with a rich bottom end. With internal shielding and a low impedance preamp, you get virtually noiseless operation at a higher output level so that all the tone makes it to your amp. Additionally, the Alnico V bar magnet allows for the output to remain balanced during string bends, and makes for a playability and reliability that is unrivaled. The creamy mid-range warmth and sublime blues tones are clear, strong and expressive, and allow you to reach from classic and clean, to rowdy and raunchy.

"Strat Presence Control"

The SPC or "Strat Presence Control" is often called the fat control. The original intent of the SPC was to turn the tone of a single-coil pickup into a dual-coil. This is accomplished by boosting the gain in a broad mid-band fashion and reducing the highs. The result is a fatter, louder tone from any single coil pickup, but you can also use it on a humbucking to give you a high output, really fat tone that's great for slide guitar.

EXG Guitar Expander

For flexibility in tone at your fingertips look to the EXG Guitar Expander. The frequency response of the EXG is similar to normal guitar amp equalization. The lows and highs are boosted while the midrange is dipped out. The EXG is great for creating a fuller tone that doesn't get muddy, while keeping it clean and clear, letting your guitar stand out in the mix.

I wanted to get close to Dave Gilmour's tone without spending a fortune. So I figured what if I try the EMG DG20s in a cheap stratocaster? I am not a great believer in tone wood. Harley Benton ST20 in Candy Apple Red with maple fingerboard. Made videos of the install and sound test on my your tube channel. I love the result. No need to shield the Strat. Quiet at rest and strat like tone - even from the low notes. Also as one changes pickups the volume doesn't drop significantly. Sounds great thru a valve amp and pretty sweet thru a Zoom G1XFour pedal. Amazing! I was slightly on the fence about buying these pickups but wow, they sound amazing and the sustain is mind blowing! Sadly they don't come with the talent of David Gilmour! Anyway, a piece of cake to install, although I made it slightly more complex as I didnt want the sparkly/blingy, pearloid type pickguard, so swapped out for a standard strat 3-ply white pickguard. Probably 30 minutes in total and I was up and running and enjoying some great sounds! Just one word of warning - you cannot remove the pickup covers as they are mounted with resin as part of the whole pickup assembly, I was worried they would stand out against the white pickguard (they are quite strongly ivory in colour - I would say more cream coloured) and had thought about replacing the covers until I discovered I couldn't, but they blend in very nicely as most white pickguards (mine included) are not a brilliant, 'bright' white.
