Seth Baccus knew he was "probably always going to be involved with guitars in some way". He's the stepson of legendary UK acoustic guitar luthier Andy Manson, and Andy's brother Hugh (founder of Manson Guitars, who has built custom electric guitars for Muse’s Matt Bellamy) has also been an influential figure in Seth's life. It’s therefore fair to say that Seth has learned his skills from the best — always "surrounded by sawdust, guitars and musicians". Working at Mansons Guitar Shop in Exeter for a number of years and building his very first guitar in 2004 — Seth Baccus has gained plenty of experience over the years; mastering his craft. Heck, he’s even worked with rock royalty including John Paul Jones, Muse, and Tom Morello!
Crafting premium electric guitars is Seth Baccus’ passion, and it’s a full-time venture. Seth uses a blend of old-world hand skills and modern precision technology to form his creations. But as Dave Burrluck of Guitarist magazine perfectly summed up in his review of a Seth Baccus model: "it’s not about just the craft", as these guitars are "hugely usable, inspirational, pro-level" instruments that are made to be played!
Andertons is stocking Seth Baccus' new 'Standard Series' instruments. These guitars are built to the same exacting specifications and quality that Seth is known for in his custom work, but are expertly-crafted in small production runs with a standard set of options. They are made at the new state-of-the-art production facility that Seth and his friends have set up in York, UK, which allows Seth to get more of his work “out there” so that a greater number of his guitars can reach players’ hands without the long waiting times.
These instruments are crafted to Seth’s demanding build practices throughout, with each one being final checked and signed off by Seth himself prior to dispatch. While Seth will continue to work extensively in York developing the Standard Series, introducing new models and getting his hands dirty with the team, he's also spoken about how he wishes to continue to his day-to-day work building one-off customer/artist guitars in his bespoke Cornwall workshop. While enjoying working with the team, Seth speaks openly about being "a fairly quiet guy who also thrives on working alone". This setup allows both of Seth’s passions to work in harmony.
The Standard Series offers a premium guitar at a sensible high-end price-point, with a range of standard options available. They represent the finest in UK guitar manufacturing, and allow you to get one of Seth’s guitars without the 2-year wait!
Seth Baccus Guitars use only the finest timbers, but pride themselves on purchasing materials from sustainable sources with FSC or Rainforest Alliance certification where possible. Seth has also partnered with the charity 'One Tree Planted', where for every guitar built and sold, he'll make a donation to various reforestation projects as a way of "giving back". Seth Baccus’ Standard series models are part of this scheme, along with his bespoke builds.
The Shoreline models that we stock feature lightweight Obeche bodies and flamed Roasted Maple necks — yielding incredible resonance, sustain and stability. They also boast an easy access, hand-carved heel design to easily reach their highest frets. Most Seth Baccus instruments come equipped with Gotoh hardware and hand-wired Bare Knuckle pickups, made in Cornwall.
