Rode seem so proud of their new NTR Ribbon Microphone that their main youtube video is simply a performance, as if to say "the quality of the mic speaks for itself, There's nothing more for us to add!" They're clearly pretty chuffed.
They assert that the "NTR is unlike any ribbon microphone ever created". This is because of a unique design that isolates the ribbon from the frame and body, resulting in greater acoustic transparecty around the mic whilst minimising physical resonance. The ribbon itself is also something a bit special, made from aluminium only 1.8 microns thick, resulting in pinpoint precision and accuracy in replicating the singer as a signal.
This kind of quality and attention to detail is mirrored throughout. The low impedance transformer offers an Ultra-low noise floor yet high output signal to ensure that your pristine vocals enter your interface as pristine as when they were first sung. Combine this with some onboard active electronics, and this mic is able to be used with a wide range of preamps without the hassle of specific gain requirements that are often a problem with other ribbon mics.
The NTR was a true labour of love for Rode and Peter Freedman, it's creator. The amazing results speak for themselves, so check out their video and decide for yourself!
