Product Description

The Roland System 8 is the second of Roland's Plug-out Synthesisers, using Analogue Circuit Behaviour Technology (ACB) to recreate a wide range of sounds inspired by over 4 decades of legendary roland synths. This Synth can host and control an extra three Plug-out software Synths in addition to it's internal sound engine.

Versatile Soundset

The System-8 features the most powerful ACB sound engine yet developed, with 8 voices of polyphony, 3 oscillators, hi-resolution filters and versatile LFOs. Whether you're looking for classic analog-style pads, asses and lead synths, or your in the mood for something a little Crisper and more modern sounding, the System-8 has a wide range of options for you to create your sound.

3 legendary plug-out synths included

As well as the internal engine, you can immediately fill all three of your three plug-out slots with the ones you get included free with the System-8. Fill your boots with the classic tones of Jupiter 8, Juno-106, and JX-3P keyboards, faithfully recreated with all their analogue character using ACB.

Optional plug-outs already available like the SH-2, SH-101 and PROMARS are also supported, and hopefully even more options will be available in the future.

Intuitive & Versatile Interface

The System-8's intuitive panel is filled with knobs, buttons, and sliders for hands-on sound creation and performance expression. The Keyboard has 49 full-size velocity sensitive keys and you've got easy access to fantastic sounding filters and effects and a massive array of hands-on controls.

The polyphonic 64-step sequencer features a familiar TR-REC style interface and dedicated controls to record, play, and manipulate loop sequences. The Arpeggio function is equipped with quick-access knobs for switching patterns and styles in real time, while Chord Memory allows the user to trigger polyphonic note stacks with a single key. The SYSTEM-8 even has an advanced vocoder built in, offering another option for delivering unique and memorable synth performances.

Like any great synth, the System-8 is designed to be explored; so the less menu diving needed, the better!

A Versatile Studio Tool

While the SYSTEM-8 excels as a performance instrument, it easily integrates into a music production environment. The synth functions as a USB audio/MIDI interface for a DAW, and the 49 full-size keys (with velocity) provide a responsive keyboard for recording MIDI tracks. There’s also a control surface mode for using the SYSTEM-8’s knobs, sliders, and buttons with soft synths. The SYSTEM-8 is equipped with CV/GATE outputs, enabling a user to send note/pitch data from the synth engine and step sequencer to trigger modular synths and vintage analog gear.

I know it is a little "plastic" and has an external power supply ...but the sound is excellent and having a CV & gate output is a real benefit if you have older stuff. Roland gear is consistently great.

The Swiss Army knife of synths. I have a few hardware synths in my studio now, but this is the one I keep going back to, super simple to create amazing sounds as all the knobs and sliders are there right in front of you, no need to have to delve deep into menus and loads of tiny LCD keypresses to change a parameter, it's all right there in front of you for the tactile tweaking. Yes, it's a couple of years old now but so what? I bought it only a few weeks ago and I LOVE it!

The sound from the System-8 is incredible, especially for a digital synth. The analog "feel" is well represented, and to have several instruments to choose from in one keyboard (via the different plug-out synths) is very useful and welcome.

Perfect for what I want, lovely retro 80s rich Roland sounds for leads, pads and bases. Plus the plug out feature will allow for even more sound variations in future. Only downside, no aftertouch on keyboard which for a £1000+ machine is disappointing. Other than that - love it :)
