Product Description

The Gibson SG Standard P90 is everything you could possibly want out of an SG with even more crunchy single coil tone. Now in 2016 it is back with a blend of modern ideas and 60's specs with the same feel, fit and finish that the SG has been known for.

Back To Basics
The SG standard was a revolutionary new guitar when it launched in 1961 as it was miles thinner than any Gibson guitar that came before and focused more on raw playability rather than sleek looks. Gibson wanted to capture the same attitude and feel this guitar had when it was introduced but in 2016.

So the body still used the same slim all mahogany design with a just as thin mahogany neck topped with rosewood for the fretboard. Normally this wood combination would make the guitar extremely heavy but due to just how thin the neck and body are on this guitar it feels lighter than a lot of other guitars available today.

It has a lot more bite when compared to a Les Paul with brighter overall sound and the change to P90's gives it a brighter single coil tone. The sound that let amps rock harder and musicians have more freedom on stage.

Professional Set Up
As part of the 2016 line this guitar has received a premium set up even before it has gone through our QC checks. This means that you can take this guitar out of the box on day one, go straight to your gig and rock up without any issues with the guitar at all.

No longer do you need to wait for a few days while you get your guitar. We all know that you want to get using a new guitar as soon as possible so Gibson have made sure you can do just that.

Sweet Smooth Neck

One thing that we have heard a few times before about Gibson guitars is that the neck heel can get in the way. They originally remedied this with their Custom Shop Axcess model that had a smoothed transition. This meant greater access to the higher frets so lead players can dig in and let loose.

The neck on all of the 2016 USA models is based off of this Custom Shop model offering the same incredible feel that previously was only available on some of Gibson's most expensive guitars.

But they did not end it there with the neck. No this guitars neck width is slightly wider than you might be used to compared to other Gibson guitars. By increasing the nut width by just 0.05"and keeping string spacing the same you get more area to play with.

Here's what Gibson say about the SG P90

When the original Les Paul evolved into the Les Paul/SG Standard in 1961, it ushered in a new lineup of sleek double-cutaway guitars that would become legendary in their own right, with rock and blues players in particular. Decked out in the upmarket features of the original SG Standard, but with a twist, the SG Standard 2016 carries a pair of screaming P-90 pickups like those used on the original SG Special of the '60s, a favorite of Pete Townshend, Robby Krieger, and other rock greats. The result is a popular alternative tone in a guitar with classic looks and specs, all at an unbeatable price for a genuine American-made Gibson electric guitar.
