  • 1000 series Floyd Rose locking trem
  • Includes hardcase

Inspired by the hot-rodded 'super-strats' of the 80s the Chapman ML-1 Hot Rod is a stripped back, no frills tone monster!

There are three fundamental important elements to any electric guitar: The body wood that resonates, the hardware that links the strings to the body and the pickup that turns the string vibrations into an electric signal. The Hot Rod focuses on those three areas and nothing else! The Swamp Ash body gives a rich but clear tone, the first choice for all super-strat instruments. The hardware is a 1000 series Floyd Rose trem system that not only ensures great sustain but also the lets you get creative with huge dive bombs and whammy effects all while maintaining tuning stability! And last but certainly not least the beast of a humbucker: Seymour Duncan's TB4 JB humbucker: one of the world's most-used, most highly-regarded humbuckers! N.B. This guitar no longer comes with the 35th anniversary JB humbucker as Seymour Duncan no longer produce it. The main difference between the TB4 and the 35th anniversary JB is that the 35th Anniversary pickup was standard spaced and the TB4 is Floyd-spaced which may yield a very subtle difference in the final tone.

Why only one pickup?

Rob and Lee were really inspired by Phil X who explained why all his signature guitars had only the bridge pickup. By only having one pickup you halve the number of magnets pulling on the strings which slightly improves sustain!

Oh man! What can I say, I couldn't be more psyched about owning this guitar. It's an absolute beast and is pretty much my go-to guitar, since it arrived (and I own 5 other guitars). Love pretty much everything about it. The body shape is as standard start-ish as it gets. The swamp ash is very light and feels great to the touch. The unfinished look and feel is incredible, trust me, I have glossy guitars and they tend to stick a little, this just slides along against your clothes and skin. Seems pretty tough, it won't be easily damaged. The neck profile and finish are just awesome for shredding, it just calls out to you to solo as hard and for as long as you'd like. The tremolo system is pretty amazing actually, it won't go out of tune even if you dive-bomb it all the way to hell!! I guess the grover tuners also play a big part on the tuning stability, since I have 2 other guitars with grover locking tuners, I pretty much knew what I was getting with this and they're as solid and stable as money can buy. The ebony fretboard is outstanding, I already owned another guitar with an ebony fretboard and loved it to bits, but I love this one even more. I admit I don't miss the neck markers right on the front, the dots on the top are pretty much all you need not to get lost and I guess not having to inlay anything into the fretboard will also keep the cost nice and low like we all want it. And now, the moment you've all been waiting for: the pickup. I have to say I was worried at first that only one pickup wouldn't be enough. I played it with my headphones on the first day because it was night already when I got to try it, but on the next day... I nearly went deaf. That is such a berserker waiting to be unleashed on the world! With a little hint of mids and highs to really bring out the high-end and lead sound, that just cuts right into your soul. It's coil-tappable to give you tone variety. It fattens up the tone a little, I'd use it for slightly bassier passages and rythm work, but pushing that wonderful tele-styled volume knob, you're bringing a snarling monster to life again. It plays everything from 80's to metal, just as advertised. I'm totally inlove with this thing and if you want one and you're not buying one, you're being a fool because they're a limited run. It's pretty much like a beast doomed to extinction, you should get while it still lives :)

This is a very nice guitar. Very well manufactured from high quality materials. Many have said it feels like a much more expensive guitar, I can only echo this. I am very impressesd. I own much more expensive guitars also but this is right up there with them. I will buy Chapman again for sure.
