Product Description

The Martin M-36 is a rare gem of Martin's Standard Series, not so well known and yet well loved by those that do! The M-36 is an M shape body (also known as 0000) which is similar in shape to an OM but with a 16" lower bout and 4" depth. That means you get dreadnought-like deep bass (from the wide bout) but retain the punch of an OM (from the shallow body depth), resulting in a hybrid tone that has won many for recording, even George Martin himself!

The main distinguishing features of the M-36 other than the shape is the three piece back. A feature borrowed from the D-35 Dreadnought, the three piece solid East Indian Rosewood back not only looks unique and gorgeous but also serves to reinforce the instrument and allows for scalloped bracing. The bracing is a forward-shifted X which provides more sparkle and more bass, which in combination with the large solid Sitka spruce top gives the M-36 its unique and fabled tone.

Vintage style finish

In terms of appearance the M-36 is double bound with purfling lines front and side. The Ebony fingerboard is also bound (a rarity in the Standard Series) for a really premium look, while the top is finished in 'Aged Toner' and a high gloss Nitrocellulose laquer that is the thickness of just two human hairs!

Remember when you buy a Martin guitar, however good it sounds out of the box, it's just going to keep sounding better and better as the years go on! The bone saddle and nut will mature for over 10 years as they bed in to give you the perfect degree of articulation, while the Nitro finished body will continue to mellow for decades just getting better every single day! That's why Martin Guitars are still as popular now as they were 100 years ago!

Here's what Martin say about the M-36

Modern styling with a slim body depth and a three-piece back, the M-36 has solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, a Sitka spruce top, polished gloss finish and a hand-fit dovetail neck joint, making it very comfortable to play.
