Product Description

The Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded is one of the more interesting guitars in the 2016 lineup. This is the most stripped down dual humbucker Les Paul model available right now but that does not mean that you are missing out on the feel or sound of an amazing Les Paul.

With a slightly more simple built but similar hardware to what is on much higher end models the value for money with this guitar is incredible. If you want to get your hands on a Les Paul without having to break the bank this is really worth a good look.

Faded Finish, Quality Build
As part of the faded finish series of guitars from Gibson this guitar has its own feel and look that can only be found on this line. While higher end Les Paul guitars use a gloss nitrocellulose finish that is very expensive but looks amazing. This guitar instead uses a worn in satin finish for both the body and neck.

How does this affect the feel and sound- Well by using the satin finish you get a more natural feeling and sounding instrument has the ability to resonate and sustain more. It also gives you a somewhat smoother and less sticky feeling on the back of the neck. Glossy finishes will sometimes cause your hand to stick especially if you sweat a lot while playing.

Apart from the finish this guitar still has a carved maple top on a mahogany body that has received Gibson's modern weight relief treatment. This treatment carefully removes sections of the heavy mahogany back that reduces weight while minimising the loss in tone. Compared to other Les Paul models this guitar is rather lightweight meaning you can gig all night long with no problems.

The neck, just like the body follows a traditional carve and is based on the amazing '59 neck. This size of neck sits in between models like the Traditional and Standard with where it is still quite large when compared to other guitars but it is slim enough to allow for sweet lead work without an issue.

Top Grade Pickups
When you saw the price of this guitar you would have been forgiven for thinking that it will come with less than amazing hardware. After all Les Pauls go in to the thousands of pounds. That is not the case at all as this guitar features the same pickups as the premium Les Paul Standard model!

These Burstbucker Pro pickups take the classic PAF humbuckers with their smooth low to mid gain response and crank them up a notch. These are PAFs with attitude. By using a new Alnico 5 magnet over the traditional Alnico 2 you get more bite, more attack and more gain with less noise. If you need something that has a traditional tone but that can support higher gain solos and chunky rhythms this is what you need.

The Hardware Inside
But what about things like tuning stability- Well This guitar may not have any kind of fancy tuning system but what it does have is a set of killer hardware that has been used for generations of Les Paul guitars.

The traditional stoptail bridge that has been used for as long as the Les Paul has been around and traditional manual tuners mean you can rely on this guitar in any gigging environment.  Just turn up to your next gig, tune up and get rocking nothing is going to let you down here.

Professional Set Up
As part of the 2016 line this guitar has received a premium set up even before it has gone through our QC checks. This means that you can take this guitar out of the box on day one, go straight to your gig and rock up without any issues with the guitar at all.

No longer do you need to wait for a few days while you get your guitar. We all know that you want to get using a new guitar as soon as possible so Gibson have made sure you can do just that.

She's a looker. Sounds nice too. Although I was originally apprehensive that it was too thick, the neck is quite comfortable to play, and not really large compared to a classical or 12-string. The model has the 'rounded' '59 neck rather than the slim '60s neck on the glossy Studio models. Although it is called 'faded', it really means a satin finish, which looks quite classy IMO. It fades to black round the sides, so the transition between the maple cap and mahogany body is not obvious unless you look closely, if this concerns you. Weighs around nine and a half pounds, which is heavier than my other guitars but not too much.
