Product Description

After we took a  visit to the Gibson Custom Shop last year we got this idea to take some tops we had picked out and make some guitars inspired by some of our favourite guitarists. This 59 Les Paul is based on a guitar that was once used by the amazing Jimmy Page in what Gibson call 'Orange Sunset Fade'

Inspired By a Legend
While this is not an official signature model for Mr Page we did hand pick the exact spec of this guitar based what the original is known to be like. Built on a R9 spec you have a few key changes that are not available on stock Gibson Custom Shop models.

Jimmy Page is well known for being one part of the legendary rock band Led Zeppelin. His unique style of playing and mixing alternative tunings with a cool fuzz/overdriven sound that pushed the boundaries of rock and part of what helped him get that tone was his selection of Gibson guitars including a '59 Les Paul in this kind of finish.

The Changes
As we said this guitar has had a few changes compared to the stock R9 model. This includes a few cosmetic options like a special VOS finish, aged nickel hardware and a top that we hand picked out to make sure this guitar looks amazing. Other changes are more functional like the use of stable Grover Kidney tuners and a Custombucker set of pickups with the bridge having exposed Zebra coils for the classic Page look. It also adds a bit more bite and aggression to that bridge pickup which is perfect for those harsh rock tones.

Probably the most important change on this guitar from the stock Gibson R9 is that it has an Elliptical neck carve meaning it is rounder at the lower strings and flatter at the higher. This is something that Page did his guitar at some point in its life and as this is our interpretation we had to make sure that it was on this guitar.

The R9 We Know
Underneath all of these changes the R9 still lives strong. The body is still made out of a single piece of lightweight mahogany with all '59 routing and cuts. This goes along with the Mahogany neck and single piece Rosewood fingerboard and Nylon nut that is standard on these models.

The R9 has been so popular for so long as it is often seen as the pinnacle of the original humbucking Les Paul line-up. If it isn't broke why change what made this guitar so great to begin with.

Disclaimer

Please note that this guitar is not officially endorsed by Jimmy Page and the specification is simply our attempt to recreate an iconic guitar using the Gibson Made 2 Measure custom guitar building program.
