Product Description

Orange are a solid, dependable name in guitar and bass amps and the new 4 stroke 300 continues a proud legacy. It's portable, sounds fantastic and is designed for the professional player on the go.

ALL ANALOGUE DESIGN

The 4-stroke is a Class AB bass amp thats great for high definition bass tone. You can turn these amps up loud without them becoming swamped in low end, whilst still having that low-end thud that you'd expect from Orange. They remain lively, without becoming compressed at low volumes and the intricate EQ means you can dial in your exact sound.

Having a Class AB output on a bass amp means you can use the amp for direct recording, without a speaker load. This is essential for those late night recording sessions.

Footswitchable Class A Compression

Every bass player needs a compressor of some sort for their bass signal. It controls the dynamic and pushes your signal up to give you more punch in the mix. The 4 stroke amps have got a clean sounding compressor built on-board and it's easily accessible with a normal orange FS-1 footswitch.

ACTIVE FOUR-BAND PARAMETRIC EQ

Full control over the entire sound spectrum – not just the mids. Featuring four independent frequency controls, each with up to 18dB of cut or boost, the 4 Stroke’s Q curves have been engineered to achieve the perfect balance between precision and usability. The intuitive layout is typically Orange – “Do much more, with much less.” With no pre-defined contour or filter switches, the ability to fine tune your sound is really comprehensive.

Parametric bands:

Bass: 40 – 400Hz
Low Mid: 80 – 800Hz
High Mid: 250 – 2.5kHz
Treble: 550 – 5.5kHz

Here's what Orange have to say about this amp head

The 4 Stroke Series is our offering to the demanding modern bass player – everything you need, and nothing you don’t. Featuring all-analogue circuitry throughout, the 4 Stroke 300 & 500 speak with genuine authority, delivering powerful tones with a natural and rounded emphasis that leaves Class D amps in their wake. The Class AB 4 Stroke stays crystal clean and expressive all the way up, without ever becoming sterile or fatiguing.

The centrepiece of these amps is the uncompromising tone stack which allows for an unparalleled level of control over the EQ without the fussiness that plagues so many. The active four-band parametric EQ covers an enormous range and opens up limitless possibilities. Whether you need to sculpt your signature sound, bring out the character of your instrument or combat troublesome acoustic environments, the 4 Stroke deals with all comers in an instant. For the finishing touch, our proprietary Class A compression circuit tracks seamlessly, adding further punch and fatness. On the rear, you’ll find the usual essentials: two parallel speaker outputs (min. total load 4 Ohms), plus balanced and line level outputs. Available in 300W and 500W configurations, the 4 Stroke Series is the perfect tool for the contemporary bassist – powerful, usable, musical.

It's a beast. At home goes from 0 to too loud in one click of the volume knob! Perfect for on stage where you need a little extra oomph to cut past those pesky guitarists!

Great sounding amp, plenty of power, with a flexible EQ section. The tone does get gritty in quite a pleasant way for rock if you drive the front end, particularly when using the single knob compressor which boosts the signal a lot (making the foot switch option less useful), so if you want a completely clean tone you may need to use the input pad switch and keep the compression control down low (so the blue light in the middle never comes on). The master volume always has plenty of range to get the clean sound as loud as you want. The circuit is very low noise, so you never feel that you are harming your noise floor by using the pad switch to keep things perfectly clean. Build quality feels very good, with a strong attractive white painted steel enclosure and tactile potentiometers, though I would prefer the master volume control to not have that slight clicky notched feel as you turn it, because at home volumes the difference in volume between each notch is significant. Class AB output section, physically heavier than class D, but worth it I think. With the 4 band sweepable EQ and lots of clean solid state power, this amp can be used with a suitable cab for other instruments, not just bass. These amps deserved more attention, it is a pity if they are being discontinued, but hopefully Orange will continue with something similar in future.

Endless power, flawless design, great value!

Got to be fair, I was wanting to get an all valve bass amp head but I couldn't afford one and my many years old solid state one I was using packed in so got this as an inbetween. I've no need for a valve one. The 4 stroke is superb. Clarity of sound is unreal, mids (most important to me) are killer. Can be dialled in to anything from that amazing JJ Burnel tone to Jamerson/Motown too. Best amp I've ever had
