The 3 key elements that separate the e/Merge from anything that's come before include the MDL1 e/Merge Module, Korgs Wave Trigger Technology and Pearls acoustic-feeling PureTouch Electronic drum pads.

Wave Trigger Technology & PureTouch

Wave Trigger Technology was created by Korg to add realism to playing with an electronic kit or pad. It sends audio signal so fast that hitting the electronic pad will send the sample so fast that you feel like you're playing an acoustic instrument. This gives you a sense of realism that most other electronic kits simply don't have. 

When this is combined with Pearls PureTouch pads you feel like you're playing an acoustic drum kit.The PureTouch cymbal pads have 6 sensor layers that respond to every nuance of your playing and even sound different depending on the stick you're using! You can choke the cymbals like you would on an acoustic kit and can even be tightened and loosened to respond like an acoustic cymbal would.
