Gibson USA ES-275 Thinline in Cherry Cola

A stunning hollowbody from the Gibson USA Factory

The ES-275 Thinline is a welcome addition to the USA line-up that’s made for the serious guitarist that’s after comfort, warm tones and that classic Gibson vibe.

Body Construction

This ES-275 is a thinline which means you have less body between you and the strings but it also means the guitar will be less prone to feedback. It has a Maple centre block like the famous ES-335 but is actually even thinner than a 335. If you consider the gain and saturated tones you can get from a 335 and imagine that with a bit more airiness in the tone, then you’ve got the ES-275 Thinline tone nailed.

The combination of tonewoods (Namely Maple/Poplar/Maple) means you get stunning top-end sparkle but the pickups keep the tones warm and mellow giving you a wonderful tonal concoction that you’d struggle to get from any other guitar.

The neck has a familiar rounded “C” neck profile, which feels substantial in the hands without being too chunky. Rolled binding also offers a smoother feel and a sleek transition between the side of the neck and the fretboard, a great feature that you will find only on high-calibre instruments like this.

Formed from quarter-sawn mahogany and a Rosewood fingerboard, this neck has a pure feel that will satisfy the purists. This powerful combination of woods brings out the warmth of this guitar, merging well with the bright body woods. This means that this guitar sounds incredibly full-bodied, great for both live use or studio sessions.

Hardware and Electronics

The ES-275 Custom has a functional ABR-1 bridge with a rosewood base, providing an old-school look that doesn’t stray too far from the iconic original design. Titanium saddles however give this a more modern spin, improving sustain, intonation and longevity. They also offer better tuning stability, along with the Grover “Milk Bottle” Rotomatic tuners which will keep the strings in check.

Dual MHS humbucking pickups give a rounded, warm tone with medium output. More responsive to your playing dynamics, they lend themselves to expressive players that like to convey their music in the most genuine way possible. With crunch or distortion, they can sound fairly raunchy and bold, meaning this guitar is not just a one-trick pony by any means. You can use this for jazz, blues, classic rock or indie – it’s that versatile!
