The BBE Acoustimax is a comprehensive analogue preamp pedal that can be used to shape and spruce up the sound of any electro-acoustic guitar. Following in the spirit of BBE's award-winning 386 preamp, the Acoustimax raises the bar for acoustic instrument sound quality and is packed full of flexible features that enable precise manipulation of your guitar's input signal.
Equipped with an effective 3-band EQ, the BBE Acoustimax allows to you to effortlessly sculpt the key areas of your acoustic guitar's sound so that you can dial in a great tone for recording or live performance. The sweepable frequency knob is particularly noteworthy as it allows you to change the mid peak; perfect for finding that tonal sweet spot. The BBE Acoustimax thus offers the same level of control you'd expect from a premium studio mixing console.
BBE's Acoustimax preamp pedal features two footswitches - one for turning the unit on and the other for engaging its 'Sonic Maximizer' circuit. If you're unfamiliar with BBE, the company practically made its name from its rackmount Sonic Maximizer units which are still used extensively in studios today.
Made up of a number of filters, BBE Sonic Maximizers are used to enhance anaemic-sounding audio signals to record-worthy quality. The inclusion of this circuit essentially gives the Acoustimax another EQ/preamp stage that can be engaged all the time, or perhaps to accentuate a particular section of a song for variation.
Versatile Connectivity Options
Boasting a line level output, you can use the BBE Acoustimax as a tone-shaper before it is connected to an acoustic guitar amp or any audio source that relies on that type of connection. Alternatively, you can use the Acoustimax's DI (XLR) output for compatability with live mixers, so that it can be connected straight to a PA system. With pad, phase and pre/post switches on the rear panel too, you can optimise the Acoustimax to suit any system via the DI output.
