So far I’ve really only scratched the surface of this impressive synth, but it looks good, is built like a tank and feels nice & solid under the fingers. Most importantly, it sounds great! It has a very different overall sound to my Neutrons which I bought it to complement. The layout & workflow really encourage ‘on the fly’ tweaking & real-time performance, which in turn leads to some interesting & rewarding variations with even the simplest of patches. An extremely broad palette of sounds can be created quickly & easily on this synth. The Metalizer (essentially a wave-folder) provides a really simple way to generate complex waveforms with high harmonic content from basic sine or triangle at the turn of a single knob going from ‘mellow’ to ‘fizzy’ in an easy, smooth transition (& don’t forget that even one of the simpler eurorack wave-folder modules will set you back at least ⅓ of the total cost of a MiniBbrute!). The Ultrasaw provides a subtle but very usable ‘fattening’ of the sawtooth output, and with a single twist of the Brute Factor knob, things can get very ‘nasty’ very quickly! The colourful (& bright) control colour-codings can seem a bit of an ‘eyeful’ at first, but in use, it provides extremely clear & useful feedback on what is currently happening on this sometimes complex but intuitive instrument. It took me a while to get to grips with the blue sub-labelling….but once you get your head round the fact that ONLY the blue labels in the sequencer section are actually Shift functions, and those in the top (synthesiser) half of the panel simply indicate the normalised patch connections, life becomes much clearer. In fairness, this is very clearly explained in the very good, very clear & easy to absorb user manual, but I do think that despite the cost of an extra colour pass at the screen-printers, a different colour for the the ‘normal’ labels (say orange) would have made things even clearer… Most of the demo’s I’ve heard online tend to make this machine sound rather harsh or nasal, but it is equally capable of some lovely round, mellow tones together with tooth-rattling bass! I opted for the 2S because I wanted the additional scope offered by the (very powerful & comprehensive) sequencer. I already had a Keystep 32 that integrates perfectly with it and gives me the best of both worlds. I think (though my credit card doesn’t agree!) that it is a great pity that Arturia have discontinued the matching DrumBrute - both machines side-by-side would have been difficult to resist! I have a hip replacement scheduled in a couple of weeks & I’m really looking forward to exploring this synth in real depth during my recuperation!

Most fun and excitement I ever had with an analog synthesizer. I am a fan of synthesizers ever since they cost the same as a car.

I love mono synths, and it's great to try something new this time I decided on the 2s because I wanted to try the sequencer version, and the patch bay is cool to play with after you have watched a few videos, and makes some great sounds and works will with my drumbrute. One thing I will add is get a USB cable so you can change clock settings and update the firmware etc...., I don't think any of my Arturia products have came with one. And it's a good price for all the features you are getting and feels solid

Very good entry point to analogue synths with lots of options to expand into the modular world if that's what you want to do. The Minibrute 2S is a very capable synth with almost infinite possibilities. It is quite complicated to get going but the recipes are a great start and the downloaded manual offers more insight. I need to spend many more hours investigating the capabilities but I am very confident that I have a great platform for experimentation and sound creation.
