Music Production Controller - quite a bold term isn't it? While there are countless MPC's on the market, few offer the same combination of control and practicality as the Akai MPC Live!
This outstanding unit boasts everything you'd want in a standalone, professional-grade music production toolkit. Not only does it come with a vast array of features and cutting-edge technology; the interface is easy on the eye and intuitive, the self-contained DAW is comprehensive yet simple, and it all comes crammed into a tiny, portable enclosure!
Complex Has Never Been This Easy!
Striking the balance between ease of use and number of features is an ongoing struggle in the world of musical equipment. It's evident with the MPC Live, however, that Akai are at the forefront of innovation - they've crammed everything you'd need for on-the-fly music production into an almost-pocket-sized unit!
A crucial element of this intuitive design is MPC 2.0, the built-in DAW. Imagine a full-blown music production suite at the tips of your fingers; every feature you'd ever need is right there, simply a flick away, there's really nothing else to it! Expect a near-unparalleled workflow, with amazing real-time editing and a beautiful hi-res OLED touch-screen display.
This incredible integration between hardware and software really does allow you to step out of the studio and into creative freedom. Pop it in your backpack and explore your sound - wherever you want it to go. You can easily record, sample, edit and mix an entire track from start to finish, without any boundaries or limitations - the possibilities are endless!
Intimate Connectivity and Control
The MPC Live comes with more connections than its compact enclosure might suggest. 2 1/4" jack and stereo RCA connections allow you to record or sample any chosen source, and a total of 6 outputs ensure that the MPC-X is right at home in an ensemble or live setting. 2 main outputs are ideal for studio monitors, but you've got plenty more at your disposal, ideal for big recording sessions or interactive jams.
Akai are also known for their MIDI and sequencer technology, so it's no surprise that the MPC-X comes fully MIDI-ready, with 4 connections for all of your sequencing needs!
In-depth Sampling and Massive Library
The MPC-X boasts a whopping 10GB vault of pre-installed sounds. Out of the box, you're equipped with everything you need to build a track in pretty much any style! It doesn't end there though; you've also got capacity to load up any samples of your own to create fresh sounds. Record them in, load them via USB or even SD card!
- A compact standalone DAW - no computer needed!
- Classic sampling workstation with the cutting-edge flexibility
- Compact body weighs 5.5 lbs. and runs on a rechargeable battery
- 7" multi-touch screen with streamlined controls
- 16 of the best velocity-/pressure-sensitive pads you'll ever feel

- Preloaded with heaps of high-quality sounds
MPC 2.4 Firmware Update
In January 2019 Akai released the MPC 2.4 firmware update further expanding the capabilities of the MPC X and MPC Live. MPC 2.4 adds 16 classic FX from Pro Tools including AIR Distortion, AIR Filter Gate, AIR Fuzz-Wah and more. On top of these, MPC 2.4 has 12 all-new plugins such as the AIR Channel Strip, AIR Maximizer, and AIR Tube Drive. You can also now achieve side ducking chain effects with the new Mother Ducker and Mother Ducker Input effects plugins.
MPC 2.4 also comes with quality-of-life changes for improving your workflow. The Clip Programs internal architecture can now play up to 16 programs simultaneously so you can seamlessly switch between tracks or sequences. Next Sequence mode now remembers the next sequence change when you leave the mode, and holding shift and the Stop button (hardware) returns the playhead to the beginning of the timeline. You can also now load and export FLAC and OGG files.
Here's What Akai Say About the MPC Live:
Versatility is crucial for all producers. Being able to easily pivot from creator to performer means more people have the opportunity to see and hear your music. The new MPC Live makes the process of performing your studio inventions on stage incredibly seamless by combining the power of a production centerpiece with the portability and rugged design of an on stage workhorse.
At the heart of the new MPC Live is a beautiful, full color 7” multi-touch screen, four touch-capacitive Q-Link controls, a clickable master encoder knob and 16 amazingly responsive, velocity and pressure-sensitive RGB pads.
Weighing in at less than 6 pounds, the MPC Live ushers in a new era of ultra-portable production. Powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and packing 16 gigs of on-board storage, the MPC Live features numerous ways to take your beloved sample library and MPC sessions anywhere. Files can be accessed and transferred to an inserted SD Card and/or an external drive attached to the USB hub on the back. If that’s not enough storage, the MPC Live also features a 2.5” SATA drive connector providing additional storage via installation of a fixed hard drive – SSD or HDD (sold separately). The same USB hub can also be used for MIDI controller connectivity.
Standalone? Check. Battery powered? Check. Contains massive amounts of internal storage? Check. Your creative flow now knows no borders and bounds.
To Plug or Not to Plug
Powering Live is MPC 2.0, Akai Professional’s new update to the MPC software. Capable of running natively on the MPC Live in standalone mode, MPC 2.0 can also be run from a Mac or PC in controller-mode.. A number of major workflow enhancements have been added to 2.0, including: audio track recording, an improved time warp algorithm, refined Q-Link control, audio and MIDI drag and drop – all appearing on a new graphical interface. Future versions will support Ableton Link.
Infinite Sounds, Unlimited Inspiration
The MPC has a well-earned reputation for sounds that hit hard and sound great, right out of the box. MPC Live is no exception. Pre-installed with 10 gigs of world-class sounds, The Vault 2.0 features samples and kits from top-notch sound design companies including Capsun Audio, MVP Loops, CR2 Records, as well as our own radio-ready kits. Want to incorporate your own samples without tethering to a computer? MPC Live features a 2.5” SATA drive connector providing more storage via external hard drive – SSD or HDD. Additionally, sounds can be accessed and added to the library using the built-in SD Card slot or the USB thumb drive.
“The MPC Live is an absolute beast. It truly represents a huge step forward in the product category,” said Dan Gill, Product Manager for Akai Professional. “MPC Live is the most powerful MPC we’ve made to date and yet it’s portable enough to take anywhere.”
