Product Description

The EWI SOLO is a modern, cutting-edge electronic wind instrument. It contains the same responsiveness, expression and feel that's present in an authentic acoustic wind instrument, with additional modern upgrades across the board. More sonic options sounds good, right?

Built for Beginners

If you're thinking about learning a wind instrument, the EWI SOLO is the perfect place to start. Its convenience, versatility and ease of use ensure that you can pick up and play without any barrier to entry. You can then translate these skills over to a traditional wind instrument at a later date.

It's not just about woodwind here though. With just a simple dial twist, the EWI SOLO's interface can transform to accommodate saxophone, EVI, oboe and flute fingering modes.

Superior Sound

The EWI SOLO is packed to bursting point with 200 integrated sounds to choose from. These span a multitude of genres and styles, guaranteeing you're ready for any musical scenario that may arise.

This sound is then projected in high-quality audio thanks to an integrated speaker. This has been carefully calibrated to produce wind instrument tones that are as accurate as possible to the real thing. You won't have to worry about battery life while you perform either; an in-built rechargeable lithium-ion battery gives you over 12 hours of playing time before it needs charging again!

Smart Design

An extremely smart build takes this instrument to new heights. The highly responsive mouthpiece (featuring a bite sensor and air-pressure level sensor) helps to control both your pitch dynamics and volume level. This leads to far more layered and expressive playing. And if you think your performance could still do with some extra intrigue, the onboard FX controls including chorus, delay and reverb - plus editing functions for tuning, pitch and dual LFO's - can be harnessed to craft your ideal sound.

Octave rollers are present too. Use them to move the note key's range, creating a whole new playing register. Add to this an adjustable pitch bend plate and portamento (via the glide plate), and you've got an instrument that rivals and surpasses its more traditional cousin in many departments. Program edits can be saved and recalled at will too using the useful favourites feature.

Connectivity

A suite of connectivity options means you're ready for studio recording, practice sessions and live performances. A 1/4-inch output lets you connect directly to PA systems; USB-MIDI connectivity ensures you're ready to explore software instruments; the 1/8-inch headphone output promotes silent practice no matter the time of day.

This is an impressive instrument. The built in speaker isn't really powerful enough to do it justice. It really needs to be played through an amp. This was not obvious until I was able to play it at home.

I am enjoying learning to play the EWI Solo coming from a brass instrument background, coping with the octave shift is taking a bit of getting used to. I don't think I will ever use 90% of the sounds. The reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is the lack of volume from the speaker. This means you need to amplify it to use in anything other than a practice situation. In order to get a good reproduction of the sound coming out you then need a good speaker system which adds to the overall cost if you haven't already got them.

Great collection of sounds, but the inbuilt speaker is only useful for personal practice. No wireless connectivity
