Rabea Massaad on the ML3 BEA

"The ML3 BEA guitars are an amalgamation of all my guitar influences musically and physically up to now in my career - achieving a combination of beauty and brutality - both tonally and visually!"

Construction

The body is made of a satin-finished alder, a popular choice for it's balanced, all-round properties. This makes it ideal for contemporary styles and allows the guitar to remain resonant and clear in any mix - particularly important with dense compositions and complex arrangements. A series of carved curves also ensure you'll be ultra-comfortable in handling the aggressive 'T' shape.

Its roasted maple ensures perfect intonation and stability thanks to the torrefaction process, hardening the wood and ridding it of any impurities. The macassar ebony fingerboard offers a familiar feel with a gentle curvature. Add to that the rolled fretboard and you'll quickly realise playing comfort doesn't get much better than this.

Sound

Rabea voiced the pickups for his signature model to suit his unique playing style, which incorporates clean passages, bluesy leads and crushing modern metal riffs. The resulting Henchman humbucker (bridge) and mini-rail (neck) combination offers a brilliantly balanced tonal palette.

The bridge position produces razor sharp metal tones. They respond brilliantly to a variety of distortions. Switch to the middle position and you're in a world of compressed twang - cleans sound simply spectacular. The neck position brings the warmth, perfect for well-rounded cleans and rich lead parts. It doesn't end there though; a 5-way switch and coil tap allows for a whole host of extra sounds. The fun never ends.

Hardware

Black and chrome hardware and reveal binding polishes off this guitars classy, modern aesthetic. A Graph Tech tusq nut reinforces the guitar with extra stability and responsive action. All in all, the ML3 BEA offers more than just modern metal mayhem - it's a perfectly precise machine that'll respond brilliantly to whatever you throw at it.

The quality of this guitar is above my skill level so I can't comment on the technical side of things. But I absolutely love the finish - it's darker than in the images on the Andertons site (which I prefer) and more closely matches the darkness of the fretboad. The roasted maple neck has some girth at the neck but is narrower than the standard series with a nice satin finish which is a pleasure to stroke and fondle! A detail I really like is that the colour of the neck closely matches the rim of the body which doesn't happen on the flamed maple necks of the standard line (I borrowed a friends before purchasing). The pickups sound great, but also it has quite a nice acoustic sound when not plugged into an amp - which is how I do a lot of my noodling.

Exactly as advertised. Plays like a knife through warm butter. Although wiring of tone control could be better (non-reactive in higher frequencies).

Es una gran guitarra que suena súper chido y está bella! El único detalle fue que el logo de Chapman en la pastilla se desprendió cuando le quite el plastico de protección, pero no es algo que afecte significativamente para mi.

Good guitar. The wood and the color work is very good. Specially the neck, it feels so good! The hardware quality was not so good because (that's why only 4 stars): 1) the bridge Humbucker was not even due to a different length of the Humbucker "feets". But I changed the Humbucker with a Dimarzio D Activator anyway 2) The black bridge has two big stains as you can see the metal below Maybe this is kind of hardware issues are common for a guitar in this price range. In general: beside the small hardware issues, the guitar is very good and if you struggle to buy it --> just go for it and get one. If this guitar would have stainless steel frets, it would be the perfect guitar :-)
