Vibrato Pedals

Vibrato sits somewhere between a tremolo and chorus effect. Whereas a tremolo pedal increases/decreases the volume of your signal at a steady rate, a vibrato pedal varies the pitch instead, similar to a chorus pedal. The difference between them however is that a chorus pedal will split your signal in two and only influence  the pitch of one of those signals, but a vibrato affects the pitch of your entire guitar sound.

Depending on how you set a vibrato pedal up, this effect can sound more natural and less synthetic compared to a chorus. This makes it more appealing to some players, including most notably Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Solo). Vibe pedals are also considered part of the same family, and work in a similar way to a vibrato but have more of a phaser-style sound.

A number of brands produce vibrato and vibe pedals, and the TC Electronic Shaker and Viscous Vibe pedals are great options if you want something simple and inexpensive. The Fulltone Deja Vibe is a more high-end alternative, featuring an expression pedal for ultimate control.
