The PRS Custom 24 is an incredibly popular guitar and can be seen on stages all around the world. They are however masterfully built instruments and that does not come cheap. However PRS have come up with a way for you to get your hands on a guitar that is 90% on the way to being there for about half the price. They do this with the S2 line of guitars that are still built in the same factory by the same people as their Core line of models but with a no nonsense design that strips back the extra bits and bobs and just leaves you with an incredible sounding guitar. What if you don't even need that much though- Well for the person who doesn't care about things like Maple tops there is also the S2 Standard series. This pickguard loaded PRS S2 Standard 24 still kicks some serious behind just without the massive price tag.

Simple Designs
For those of you that have been a PRS fan for a while may know about the tale of the old PRS EG. This series of guitars were released for the same reason we have the S2 series now. To give everyone a shot at getting their hands on some USA PRS goodness at an extremely good price. While the first line of S2 models focused on replicating the look of the higher end PRS guitars the S2 standard line takes a step back to the EG line and brings it forward with its loaded pickguard design and stripped back aesthetics.

Made with an all Mahogany body and neck construction and topped off with a rosewood fretboard this guitar is built to deliver the same fantastic tone that you get from any guitar from PRS. You don't have to worry about limitations with this guitar as every note on its 24 fret 25" scale length neck is easy to reach without even thinking about.

The Trimmings
Even though we say this is a stripped back PRS it is still filled up with top quality hardware that will keep on working night after night. From the top down you have PRS S2 locking tuners that much like their big brothers the Phase III machine heads just do not fail. Down a little bit you find the PRS designed nut made especially for them.

At the body things get a little bit different. The first thing you will notice is the pickguard swooping around the body. No PRS have not gone crazy this is just a great way to reduce the costs of making a guitar while still giving you the same incredible sound. This is one of the things they learned with the EG model back in the early 90's so to see them reintroduce it in the S2 Standard 24 I think is a great choice.

The hardware in the body is where the true magic happens though. You can seriously take this guitar to any kind of gig and it will outperform most of what it meets on stage. The PRS S2 HFS and Vintage Bass pickups are serious pieces of kit that match up really well even against the higher end Core versions. To control these pickups you have a single volume, a single tone and a 3 way selector switch. Hidden under the tone control though is a push pull pot that coil taps the pickups so you can get those in-between humbucker and single coil sounds that PRS are famous for.

Last but no means least you have the PRS S2 Tremolo that rocks like no other. It works perfectly with the PRS S2 locking tuners to make sure you don't go out of tune in the middle of your gig. All of this hardware and the quality of the USA build make this not only a great guitar but a great value proposition as an introduction in to the world of American made guitars.
