The Gibson SG Standard Traditional is everything you could possibly want out of an SG! This guitar has been around solidly in one form or another since 1961 and to this day is still one of the most popular guitars Gibson has ever made. Now in 2016 it is back in its traditional format with the same feel, fit and finish that the SG has been known for.

Back To Basics
The SG standard was a revolutionary new guitar when it launched in 1961 as it was miles thinner than any Gibson guitar that came before and focused more on raw playability rather than sleek looks. Gibson wanted to capture the same attitude and feel this guitar had when it was introduced but in 2016.

So the body still used the same slim all mahogany design with a just as thin mahogany neck topped with rosewood for the fretboard. Normally this wood combination would make the guitar extremely heavy but due to just how thin the neck and body are on this guitar it feels lighter than a lot of other guitars available today.

It has a bit more of a bite when compared to a Les Paul with brighter overall sound but this has always been the classic SG sound. The sound that let amps rock harder and musicians have more freedom on stage.

Hot Humbuckers
While the original SG did use PAF pickups nowadays they lack the level of attitude we would expect. That is why this guitar now uses a set of the versatile 490R and 498T humbucking pickups. These take the classic PAF style that we all love with its luscious smooth and mid gain tone and turns them up to 11.

These are much hotter than your traditional humbucker but don't let that fool you. By playing with the volume and tone control you can dial these guys back into a more vintage tone when you need. Then when you want to rock out with some harder gain turn everything up to max for some great high gain response.

Professional Set Up
As part of the 2016 line this guitar has received a premium set up even before it has gone through our QC checks. This means that you can take this guitar out of the box on day one, go straight to your gig and rock up without any issues with the guitar at all.

No longer do you need to wait for a few days while you get your guitar. We all know that you want to get using a new guitar as soon as possible so Gibson have made sure you can do just that.

Here's what Gibson say about the SG Standard

When the original Gibson Les Paul evolved into the Les Paul/SG Standard in 1961, the transition embodied Les Paul's vision for a sleek, powerful, contemporary solid-body electric guitar. The distinctive new double-cutaway guitar-now simply known as the SG-was an overnight success, and became a major rock and blues icon by the late '60s. The new SG Standard 2016 T embodies all the tone, feel, and look of the original rendition of this legendary guitar, all wrapped into a design that remains one of the most versatile guitars available today.
