The ehx soul food sounds different to any other overdrive or boost ive used before. The volume gain and treble controls are very responsive and make this pedal very versitile. Placed before the ehx deluxe big **** it adds a bit of grit and sparkle to the thick fuzz tone. Its an excellent pedal.

Nice boost/drive pedal and a fair price.
Not an all out drive pedal though so don't expect crazy levels of gain.
Great to use with a already driven amp.

My guitar teach recommended this, and I'd tried his out first. I love the range of tones you can achieve with this, from smooth rich round sounds with drive low, to great grainy bluesy rock overdrive, all from just three knobs!

Wanted a Klon pedals, did not want to pay out a ridiculous amount of money. The Soul Food kept coming up, so at this price decided to go for it. Great purchase. Boost to classic distortion this pedal does it all while at the same time lets your amp shine through. As you increase the gain it does not add ridiculous amount of bottom end and compression as some pedals do. This went straight onto my small pedal board for live use, knocking off another pedal. Well done EHX. Just perfect.

Why spend a fortune on Klon clones when this little pedal does an amazing job? Highly recommended.

Very controllable drive. Even when pushed it still let's you hear what you play. Doesn't get muddy or indistinct. ****** great pedal.

I really like this pedal. Setting the drive right down, and then playing with volume and treble until the tone exactly matched my guitar was a good place to start. Then slowly turning the drive up until the right level of grit is reached. For me 12 o'clock for the drive knob was perfect; a real transparent overdrive (yes I hate that term as well, but it is actually true in this case). Going past 12 you get more saturation and the tone is coloured more.
I use this with the top-boost channel of a Vox AC-30, and it works really well, without any of the fizziness I get from other overdrives.

This is the JHS-modded Soul Food. Really versatile, sounds great, vast improvement over the basic Soul Food.

I love playing amplified acoustic guitars, but during the odd song I just wanted to flick a switch and get a "distort electric sound", when visiting Andertons this year, I walked into the acoustic guitar room, and another guitarist was playing a nylon string guitar through the Soul Food OD pedal, and a bose PA and getting a wonderful tone. I new there and then I had found the pedal i was looking for. I purchased straight away, and the first time I tried it myself was back in Sydney, when I plugged my R Taylor into my PA, and wow, beautiful clean tones (as normal), then hit the switch and I was getting this wonderful distort Electric guitar sound out of this acoustic set up. This is the first pedal that I have bought that gave me the sound in my head so easily - I normally have to work both with the pedal, amps, and my technique, to get it. I'm very satisfied.

Great pedal, was looking at a good few overdrive pedals for a while (including your 3 way battle including the Soul Food), and this gives a nice crunch, but can be very transparent too! Exactly what I was looking for! Great that it came with a power supply too!

A good sounding boost/overdrive pedal, but poor quality control meant two pedals were returned because of the same fault developing ( After a few days the pedal would no longer work on battery power.) The current pedal seems okay so far but my view of Electro Harmonix is pretty low at the moment!!

Excellent overdrive, I fancied an overdrive to let the guitar tone shine through more and this certainly did the trick highly recommend, I'm also using a spark booster in front of it which turns the soul food into an absolute beast.

The pedal, Electro Harmonix Soul Food is a good solid little pedal, my only gripe is that is billed as a transparent overdrive which I would argue it isn't quite that. However, when used as a clean boost it seems to work really well and helps to take a valve amp into break up territory. Easy to use, the true bypass/buffered switch is a really good idea and one that should feature on a lot of pedals. For the price, this thing just has to be the best value pedal going. It also comes with a power supply which although is a cheap and nasty affair. I would pay another £10 extra for this pedal if the power supply was better quality. On the other hand I would have preferred it came without a power supply in the first place, it would be an even better price I then.

This is a great little pedal. For the money, it's hard to refuse. The thing with overdrive pedals is that there are just loads of great ones and the best approach to collect a bunch you really like, so that when you hit the studio or the road, you have options. Overdrives also sound drastically different between guitars, as opposed to a delay or reverb pedal. I think the Soul Food is particularly well suited to single coil pickup guitars. It doesn't stack all that amazing with other overdrives, but if you want a great go to for that 'Klon' sound, this and a Strat will make you very happy.
