Product Description

Delay is an effect that has evolved greatly over the years; from vintage tape echo to crisp modern digital delays. The Alexander Pedals History Lesson V3 gives you all those sounds thanks to the six distinct delay modes that cover the range of delay types. The tape delay of the 60s, analogue delay of the 70s, 80s digital delay, and beyond with Lo-Fi, four-head multi-tap, and filter types. From the past to the present the History Lesson spans the evolution of delay.

Six Delay Modes

There are six distinct delay modes in the History Lesson V3 with sounds that span from warm and vintage through to modern and experimental. For a 60s-style sound, there’s the tape echo mode (MAG) which emulates the organic delay sound of a classic tape delay unit. Moving on to the 70s, there’s the analogue bucket-brigade delay mode (BBD) which has warmer and darker sounding delays. There’s also the 24-bit digital delay mode (DIG) which captures the bright, crisp, and clean delay tones of the 80s

The new modes in the V3 include a lo-fi tape-style delay (LOFI) which has a dirtier, more imperfect tone than the traditional tape sound. There’s a four-head multi-tap digital delay (4HD) which allows for more complex, rhythmic delay effects, as well as a filter mode (FLT) which features a 12-bit rack-style digital delay capable of wild modulation sounds.

Controls

The History Lesson V3 has an expansive array of delay sounds and gives you plenty of options for shaping that sound while keeping the pedal compact. There are four control knobs, with three of them having an alternate function: Time/Tone, Feedback, Mix/Level, Mod/Rate. The Time, Feedback, Mix, and Level controls do what they say on the tin, but the other controls change based on the effect mode.

  • MAG - Mod knob adjusts tape crinkle, the Rate knob adjusts how often the crinkle effect happens, while the Tone knob can be used to simulate worn tape.
  • BBD - Mod and Rate can be used for adjustable chorus modulation while the Tone knob changes the percussive attack of the delay.
  • DIG - Mod and Rate act as a digital pitch modulator while Tone spans bright and dark voicings.
  • LOFI - Mod and Rate can be used to adjust the wow and flutter of the tape while Tone adjusts the amount of transistor drive applied to the delay signal.
  • 4HD - Tone adjusts the brightness of the echo signal while the Mod control allows you to switch between eight different head types.
  • FLT - Tone controls a resonant filter while Mod adds a pitch detune.
