PRS SE Custom Black Ace Edition
PRS SE guitars are known to be some of the best made guitars you can score for under £1000. From their amazing value standard range to their feature filled higher end models PRS make a great guitar no matter your budget. The PRS SE Custom Black Ace Edition is no different and sits alongside the Mark Tremonti Custom at the top of the SE line with pro grade specs and a premium feel.
This guitar is very close to the Mark Tremonti Custom model that is loved by so many guitarists. In fact the only difference really is that this guitar features a plain Maple top instead of a figured one and comes in this jet black finish. Everything else is exactly the same as what you find on the Tremonti Custom.
Fantastic for more modern styles this guitar features a thick Mahogany body and a Maple neck with Rosewood fretboard for a powerful sound with a strong attack. The Mahogany keeps the lower midrange punch and powerful so chords ring out while the Maple gives it a bit of extra bite to cut through with solos.
Easy To Play
One of the best things about PRS guitars is how much thought goes in to the playability. Made to fit the PRS standard 25" scale length hits that perfect point of tension and ease of use this guitar also has their Wide Thin neck pattern.
This pattern was developed with a wide range of different players who prefer thinner necks from shredders to hardcore riffers and even blues guys to find the perfect size. In the end the PRS Wide Thin is thin enough to easily shred on while still having enough substance that you still know there is a solid piece of wood between your hands.
You know that the hardware on a guitar makes a big difference to the feel, tone and tuning stability of any guitar. PRS know this as well so that is why all of their hardware is designed in house by the same teams that make their incredible USA 'Core' guitars. For you that means that even at this price you are getting an absolutely great feeling guitar that holds tuning live and produces some powerful tones.
Some of the highlights include an up routed PRS designed tremolo system so you can dive bomb and squeal like crazy without worrying about your guitars tuning. The other major piece of hardware in this guitar is the set of PRS SE 245 pickups that have a modern output with a classic tone meaning you can easily go between many different styles with just one guitar. No longer do you have to take a pile of different guitars to your next gig as blues, rock, pop, metal and more are all possible with this guitar.
Tour Ready Gigbag
Another thing PRS SE are known for are strangely enough their gigbags. No one wants to carry around a nice guitar in a cheap gigbag that will barely hold you guitar let alone protect it from a fall. So PRS included an amazing heavily padded gigbag with all of their PRS SE guitars completely free of charge. It is so good it may become your favourite way to carry your guitars.
Music Radar - 5 Stars
"The action is dangerously low and super-fast."
"Sonically, the classic hot SE 245 humbucker mixes well with the vibrato's edge for juicy classic rock-style voices"
"The vibrato has a two-tone up bend on the G and goes down to floppy, but still comes back in tune."
Here's what PRS say about the SE Custom Black Ace
A long-standing PRS player (he's been playing them for 15 years), Skunk Anansie's Ace has worked with PRS Guitars recently to come up with this fantastic rock beast - his limited edition SE signature model. Just 180 of these guitars will be available, in Europe alone..
Modelled on Ace's favourite, customised US Singlecut guitars, his SE guitar gets a full-depth solid mahogany body and bevelled maple cap, teamed with his choice of SE 245 pickups to give the guitar a classic blend of modern and vintage tone.
Other key features include Ace's favourite Wide Thin neck carve, 25" scale length, 22-fret mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard, old school birds inlays and smooth, stable PRS tremolo system. The guitar even comes with a swallow-in-flight sticker (as seen on Ace's own Singlecut) in the included gigbag!
