The PRS S2 Mira has been a design in the PRS catalogue far beyond the introduction of their S2 line. A stripped back rock machine with a bevelled top and dual humbuckers this guitar has the versatile PRS tone range but without having to spend £2k plus on a core model.
Well Rounded Tone
By well rounded we not only mean versatile we also mean the tone itself is well rounded. Not too much low end, high end or midrange, just a beautiful sounding guitar that you can use for everything from pop to blues and all the way up to heavier rock styles. Part of this is due to the all Mahogany build and the other part is due to the custom made Mira pickups that are made just for this guitar.
All Mahogany Design (Well Nearly)
PRS are long time users of Mahogany in their guitars. Pretty much every guitar they make outside of Private Stock uses Mahogany for the neck and body. The reason is that it is fantastic at making a really warm, meaty sound without producing any really harsh frequencies. Apart from the Rosewood fretboard this guitar is entirely Mahogany really helping build that Well Rounded Tone that we mentioned before.
One of the common complaints with the older Mira designs is that they used an already intonated wrap around bridge. This means out of the factory it would play perfectly but over time you may get issues just from the amount of movement in the guitars woods. Now this doesn't matter as the S2 Mira now has a PRS Adjustable stoptail so you can really dial in the perfect intonation and feel every time you set it up.
Here's what PRS say about the S2 Mira
With an understated, refined appearance, instant comfort and playability, and a voice that is familiar and captivating, the vintage-inspired S2 Mira is a guitar you won't want to put down.
Its all-mahogany body and asymmetrical, beveled top give the S2 Mira much of its explosive tone. And while not a super high output guitar, the S2 Mira can be overdriven into well-rounded, organic rock tones without sacrificing the punch or clarity found in higher-output guitars (or even active pickups). The bridge pickup is rich with some sparkle and substantial but tight low end, while the neck pickup is a little darker providing great balance and vintage tones.
